The introduction at the conference stated: After the national resistance day of December 19, 1946, in 1947, the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee decided to withdraw all its forces to Ba Long, because Ba Long had all the conditions to build a resistance base against French colonialism. On April 14, 1947, the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee held a meeting in Teng Teng (Trieu Phong) and decided to choose the land west of Trieu Phong, Hai Lang from Hon Linh, Boc Lo, through Khe Su, Khe Cau, Ba Long extending down to Boong, from Hon Linh extending down to Hai Dao to build a revolutionary base called Ba Long war zone.
The Ba Long War Zone was established to become the place of operation, headquarters of Party agencies, administrative resistance committees, unions, main force troops, engineering workshops, and the center of resistance leadership. Here, Quang Tri Provincial Party Congresses, conferences, and meetings took place that had decisive significance for the local resistance against the French.
This is also the place where fierce battles took place between us and the enemy, events related to the three provinces of Binh-Tri-Thien, where the 6th Regiment, also known as Phu Xuan Regiment, was established on October 10, 1965, the 2nd Corps, also known as Huong Giang Corps, on May 17, 1974, and was a safe stop for Party leaders and delegations of cadres from the North to the South.
After the Geneva Agreement was signed on July 21, 1954, Ba Long became an administrative district under the Saigon government. In the early morning of February 9, 1964, the liberation army launched a lightning attack and took control of Ba Long district in just 25 minutes. This victory made the people and soldiers of Quang Tri as well as the people and soldiers of the two regions of the North and South of the country proud.
On February 6, 2023, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 49 recognizing Ba Long as a Central Safe Zone commune located in Quang Tri province during the resistance war against France and the US.
The workshop attracted many delegates who are doctors and masters of Le Duan Political School and other sectors and localities in the province to present many scientific arguments and valuable documents to clarify the historical role of Ba Long war zone in our nation's war to defend the country.
