Mr. Lee Woo Young, Chairman of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, mentioned the long-term relationship in labor cooperation between Vietnam and Korea. According to him, Vietnamese workers have contributed a lot to the development of both countries. In 20 years, the number of Vietnamese workers entering Korea is more than 13,000 people, ranking second among countries sending workers to Korea, according to the number mentioned by Mr. Lee Woo Young. Among them, many Vietnamese have completed their labor process in Korea and continue to return to this country to work. Mr. Lee Woo Young considered this a valuable human resource in developing cooperative relations between Vietnam and Korea. Affirming that the labor cooperation program with Vietnam is a focus of the Korean Government's attention, he hopes that labor cooperation between the two countries will be increasingly better. Mr. Lee Woo Young also hopes to shorten the entry process of workers into Korea; build a new mechanism for labor selection.

The story of successful Vietnamese workers in the "land of kimchi"

Present at this forum, many outstanding workers were invited to the stage to share their stories. Ms. Le Thi Tinh (from Thanh Hoa) is one of the Vietnamese workers working in Korea. She shared that right after graduating from high school, she learned about Korea's work permit program for foreign workers, then was selected by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and was supported with a loan of 100 million VND... Thanks to a series of practical support policies from Vietnamese agencies, she has now escaped poverty and has a job with a stable salary in Korea. Mr. Le Van Huy (born in 1989, in Hanoi) shared that he graduated from high school in 2007, but due to his family's financial difficulties, he went to Korea to work with the help of many local levels and sectors.

When he first came to Korea to work at a plastics company, Mr. Huy said it was very hard because he worked day and night. In 2010, he switched to working on an automatic car production line and 12 years of working here helped him learn a lot. In 2016, Mr. Huy applied and two years later officially got Korean citizenship. With his determination and efforts, he bought a house, opened a Hanoi vermicelli shop in Korea, gradually expanded his investment, and had a good source of income. Recounting that journey, Mr. Huy hopes that Vietnamese workers in Korea will work hard and try their best to achieve good results.

Helping workers realize the "Korean dream"

Sharing his emotions after listening to these stories, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy that dozens of Vietnamese workers were accepted back after returning home from Korea. "That is proof of the cyclical nature of labor, showing that the presence of Vietnamese people in Korea is extremely necessary," the Prime Minister shared. According to the head of the Vietnamese Government, labor cooperation between Vietnam and Korea still has a lot of room, because Korea is in the process of population aging and labor shortage, while Vietnam has a golden population. Therefore, the two sides can complement and support each other. According to the Prime Minister, labor demand in Korea is needed in many fields such as industry, agriculture, and services. "Korea has an increasing demand for labor but high requirements, we must improve the quality and efficiency of cooperation, change the way we do things," the Prime Minister noted. He said he was very impressed with the statement shared by the Chairman of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, that is, those responsible must do what they can to help workers realize their Korean dream when working and living here. "We must be responsible for each other, how to make workers respected, loved and devoted to the relationship as well as the development of the two countries," the Prime Minister emphasized.

He suggested that Korea take the lead in training international human resources, including Vietnamese workers, and send highly qualified experts and managers to work in Vietnam. The Vietnamese Government leader also suggested that Korea continue to increase the quota for receiving Vietnamese workers under the Employment Permit System (EPS), workers in the shipbuilding, agriculture, fishing vessel fisheries industries, and expand new industries that Korea has demand for (such as information technology, nursing, and services, etc.). The Prime Minister emphasized that agencies need to share information to create a favorable, safe, friendly, and culturally harmonious environment for Vietnamese workers in Korea; ensuring that workers enjoy their legitimate benefits, work with peace of mind, and comply with local laws. On the Vietnamese side, in addition to traditional industries, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam aims to recruit and dispatch skilled and qualified workers in a number of fields and industries that Korea has strengths in and focuses on, such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, biotechnology, self-driving cars, etc. Vietnamese agencies are also increasing support for employment, start-ups, and connecting job supply and demand for workers working in Korea returning home with Korean enterprises investing in Vietnam. In the spirit of "harmonious benefits and shared risks", the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is always committed to listening, accompanying, supporting and creating all conditions for foreign enterprises and workers in general and Koreans in particular to invest, do business, and work effectively and long-term in Vietnam. Vietnam considers your success as its own success, according to the Prime Minister. For Vietnamese workers working and studying in Korea, the Prime Minister hopes that they will take advantage of the opportunity to improve their knowledge, skills and experience; learning the working style and serious, professional attitude of the Korean people. He hopes that when returning to Vietnam, these workers will become good businessmen, skilled workers, exemplary citizens, contributing to the development of their homeland, country as well as the good relationship between Vietnam and Korea.
According to statistics, there are currently more than 650,000 Vietnamese workers working in over 40 countries and territories. Since 2014, Vietnam has sent over 100,000 workers to work abroad each year. With Korea, cooperation in the field of sending and receiving workers between Vietnam and Korea is witnessing strong and comprehensive development. Korea began receiving Vietnamese workers in 1992 and has now become one of the key labor markets, attracting many Vietnamese workers with high salaries and good working environments. In 2023, Vietnam sent 15,000 workers to work in Korea, the highest in the past 10 years and ranked first among 16 countries sending workers to work in Korea.
