Direct flights to Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) meet the increasing demand from Korean tourists.

According to Business Post (Korea), this winter, three Korean airlines will operate direct flights to Phu Quoc, including Jeju Air, Korean Air and Jin Air.

Korean Air will officially operate the Seoul - Phu Quoc route from November 26 with a frequency of one flight per day. Jin Air, a subsidiary of Korean Air, also announced that it will operate this route from December 24.

In addition to Korean Air and Jin Air, Jeju Air has officially resumed its Seoul - Phu Quoc route, starting from October 29. Previously, Jeju Air was the first Korean airline to reopen flights to Phu Quoc after the pandemic. This airline had opened its Seoul - Phu Quoc route in November 2019 and had to close it due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Business Post, before restarting flights to Phu Quoc, Jeju Air launched many promotional programs on tours, resort packages and discounts on SIM card purchases for tourists.

According to the Korean Aviation Information Portal, the number of Korean passengers traveling to and from Vietnam in the third quarter of this year reached about 2.3 million, double that of the same period last year. The Seoul - Phu Quoc route recorded 931 flights and 200,000 passengers from January to August. Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of flights increased by 53.6% and passenger transport efficiency increased by 97.8%.

This shows the "explosion" of travel demand of Korean tourists to Phu Quoc, but as of October 15, only one Vietnamese airline operates direct flights. That is the reason why Korean airlines have joined in. On the other hand, responding to Business Post, a representative of a Korean airline said that because there are already many flights from Korea to Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) and Da Nang, the airlines have switched to Phu Quoc to exploit new destinations.

Korean media is paying great attention to Phu Quoc. Asia Today praises Phu Quoc as a family-friendly destination thanks to its clean beaches, many resorts, villas with private pools, and amusement parks. TTL says Phu Quoc is a place where families, friends, and couples can enjoy themselves. Meanwhile, Business Post praises Phu Quoc for its beautiful beaches, especially the southern part of the island where you can watch the breathtaking sunset.

On Naver, a website known as the 'Google of Korea', Korean travel bloggers also continuously post articles about Phu Quoc tourism. Most of them share their experiences staying at the top resorts and hotels of the "pearl island". Mango Fairy, a blogger with 16,000 followers, commented that Phu Quoc deserves the title "Maldives of Vietnam" after 6 days and 5 nights here.

"Coming to Phu Quoc, you will enjoy villas with swimming pools at reasonable costs," she said, comparing the quality and prices of the resorts here to be better than Phuket (Thailand).
