Resolving and removing obstacles, perfecting mechanisms and policies to promote cooperation linking cinema with tourism promotion are proposed ideas at the International Conference on Promoting Investment in Developing Tourism Brands through Cinema in 2023.
The conference took place on the afternoon of June 17 in Nha Trang City, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa Province, with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the General Department of Tourism, the Department of Cinema, the Department of International Cooperation, the Vietnam Film Institute, representatives of central and local agencies and units, and more than 100 delegates who are film producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, corporations, and domestic and international enterprises.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Van Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: Tourism is considered a "smokeless industry", contributing more and more and playing an important role in the economy of many countries. Developing green and sustainable tourism on the basis of preserving and exploiting traditional cultural values, associated with environmental protection is the development trend of the times. Tourism is also a bridge between tradition and modernity, between peoples and cultures in the world.

The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested businesses, investors and units to promote cooperation in linking cinema with tourism promotion; jointly resolve and remove obstacles and bottlenecks, propose to build and perfect appropriate mechanisms and policies to increase competitiveness such as: Creating the most favorable conditions for procedures for foreign film crews coming to Vietnam; preferential policies on taxes and fees according to the provisions of the law on taxes and fees; exemption and reduction of accommodation costs, tickets to scenic spots; attracting investment in building professional film studios; coordination between localities, tourism businesses and film crews to effectively exploit tourism from cinema; synchronization between tourism promotion and advertising plans with film production plans and exhibition activities.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Huong, Executive Chairman of Galaxy Studio, pointed out the limitations and shortcomings in Vietnam in the filmmaking process such as the lack of strong development of resources and strategies to promote the country to international film crews; there are no clear legal regulations related to filming; the licensing process takes a lot of time and effort, increasing costs and slowing down the progress of international projects. At the same time, Ms. Huong also proposed a number of solutions to promote the development of cinema and tourism promotion, which are: Digitalizing tourism and cinema; improving administrative procedures; supporting logistics; linking multiple sectors to facilitate licensing; supporting tax and financial policies; doing a good job of communication, maintenance and dissemination.

Sharing experiences and criteria in finding opportunities for cooperation in local film production, Mr. Justin Kim, CEO of CJ ENM Vietnam, said that when choosing a location to make a film, factors such as the availability of facilities, available personnel, beautiful and unique landscapes, and support from local authorities are needed; in particular, it is necessary to improve administrative procedures so that film crews can have quick and convenient access.
