DTO - In 2025, the People's Committee of Cao Lanh City will continue to direct the strengthening of the policy of integrating environmental protection into the local socio-economic development program. Departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of communes and wards strictly implement legal regulations, inspection results, examinations, and administrative procedures on environmental protection; coordinate to organize various forms of propaganda and mobilization, creating high consensus among all classes of people on the responsibility of preserving a green - clean - beautiful environment.
Union members, association members and residents of Ward 1 (Cao Lanh City) launched the model "River without garbage", contributing to environmental protection and creating urban beauty.
Continuously improving and enhancing the environmental quality in the area, every year, the People's Committee of Cao Lanh City directs relevant units to develop and implement many plans such as: propaganda on climate change response, resource management, environmental protection; collection, transportation, treatment of used pesticide shells and packages; implementation of "Urban civilized lifestyle" and "Criterion No. 17 on environmental landscape construction". Along with that, strengthen the direction of relevant sectors, People's Committees of communes and wards to regularly inspect and supervise waste collection and transportation activities in the area. At the same time, strengthen the inspection and supervision of compliance with environmental protection laws for organizations and individuals in the area; inspect and resolve reports on environmental pollution and remind and handle violations of environmental protection laws.
In performing its assigned tasks, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment closely monitors and supervises the collection and transportation of domestic waste; contracts with Dong Thap Urban Water Supply and Environment Joint Stock Company to handle domestic waste generated in the area at the Dap Da Waste Treatment Area (Cao Lanh District). It is estimated that in 2024, Cao Lanh City will collect and treat about 48,296 tons, contributing to increasing the rate of waste collection and treatment in the area.
Regarding medical waste, Cao Lanh City People's Committee directed Cao Lanh City Medical Center to sign a contract with a unit responsible for collecting, transporting and treating medical waste generated from the unit, private clinics, and commune health stations, achieving 100% according to regulations. In addition, waste treatment in the agricultural sector such as: collecting, transporting, and treating used pesticide shells and packaging in the area has been promptly implemented, contributing to reducing environmental pollution.
Along with collecting and treating waste, the People's Committee of Cao Lanh City directed to promote communication to raise public awareness in maintaining a green - clean - beautiful environment. All levels and sectors integrated propaganda through activities responding to World Environment Day on June 5, Action Month for the Environment, and the Campaign to Make the World Cleaner, organizing many propaganda activities on environmental protection... Thereby, hanging 36 propaganda banners, designing a flower car to promote environmental protection on main roads in the area; distributing more than 20,00 propaganda leaflets, mobilizing people to limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products. In addition, mobilizing people to raise awareness and responsibility in environmental sanitation in public areas in the area; coordinating and supporting communes and wards to carry out environmental sanitation 12 times, attracting more than 840 civil servants, public employees, union members, association members, and people to participate; Collected more than 14.2 tons of waste and transported and processed it according to regulations.
In localities, the People's Committees of communes and wards coordinate with the Fatherland Front Committees at the same level to maintain and promote the effectiveness of the "Garbage-free River" model in conjunction with propaganda and environmental sanitation campaigns on rivers, canals and ditches. The "Garbage-free River" model activities attracted more than 2,560 participants in cleaning and collecting garbage on more than 28km of rivers, canals and ditches; collected, transported and treated more than 25.8 tons of grass, garbage, water hyacinth... contributing to clearing the flow and beautifying the local environmental landscape. In addition to the achieved results, the socialization of waste collection, especially in communes and wards, is still low; some households have not registered for garbage collection on routes where garbage collection has been organized; there is still a situation of littering on the streets, into rivers, canals, ditches... affecting the environment.
In the coming time, the People's Committee of Cao Lanh City will continue to direct relevant sectors and units to maintain and replicate effective models associated with strengthening propaganda and mobilizing people to reduce the use of plastic waste, hard-to-decompose nylon bags and implementing a model of classifying solid waste at source in the area. At the same time, pay attention to the work of preventing and controlling environmental pollution; organize regular and surprise inspections of production and business establishments, promptly handle acts of not implementing State regulations on environmental protection, causing environmental pollution. Along with that, coordinate with the Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations of Cao Lanh City to improve the quality of propaganda work among all classes of people, contributing to the implementation of civilized urban lifestyle and environmental indicators in the construction of new rural areas, advanced new rural areas...
