Nhi Yen and Vietnamese track and field stars compete in the Taiwan Open

19-year-old talent Tran Thi Nhi Yen is expected to follow in the footsteps of her seniors Vu Thi Huong and Le Tu Chinh in the most exciting 100m and 200m speed distances in athletics. In April, Nhi Yen showed remarkable progress when she broke her own record, won a double silver medal in 100m and 200m at the U.20 Asian Championship and qualified to participate in the U.20 World Championship. In case Vietnamese athletics does not have an official place to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tran Thi Nhi Yen will be selected to receive a special place.

Tran Thi Nhi Yen promises to shine at the Taiwan International Athletics Championships starting today.

On the first day of competition at the Taiwan Open today, Tran Thi Nhi Yen participated in the 100m event. This is the event in which she holds the best performance of 11 seconds 40 and aims to achieve better results. The Taiwan Open is part of the International Athletics Federation competition system, so it attracts many strong athletes to participate, which is a valuable opportunity for Nhi Yen to hone her skills.

Also on today's competition day, the Vietnamese athletics team participated in the women's 1,500m event with Bui Thi Ngan and Nguyen Thi Thu Ha; the men's 1,500m event with Luong Duc Phuoc; and the 3,000m obstacle course event with Nguyen Trung Cuong.

Quach Thi Lan and the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team are hunting for tickets to the Paris Olympics.

The Taiwan Open is also an opportunity for the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team, including Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Hang, and Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, to seek an official ticket to the Paris Olympics. At the Asian Relay Championship in May in Thailand, four Vietnamese girls won gold medals with a fairly good time of 3 minutes 30 seconds 81. However, to win an Olympic ticket, Quach Thi Lan and her teammates must at least surpass the 3 minutes 27 seconds 29 currently held by the Nigerian team. The Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team will compete tomorrow (June 2).
