Vietnamese longan is in high demand at Thai supermarkets, selling for up to 230,000 VND/kg
On August 18, 2023, consumers visiting and shopping at Tops supermarket (located in Centralworld Shopping Center (Bangkok, Thailand) , can buy imported longan from Vietnam - longan according to Global GAP standards, harvested in growing areas with qualified codes eligible for export to the Thai market.
This is the result of many efforts by Central Retail Vietnam and its partners in promoting the export of Vietnamese longan fruit to the Thai market through modern retail channels.
With an attractive promotional price of 259 Baht/500g, reduced to only 169 Baht/500g (about 230,000 VND/kg), it is expected that about 2.3 tons of longan from the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam will be consumed on the Tops retail system of Central Retail Thailand on this occasion.
Mr. Paul Le - Vice President of Central Retail Group in Vietnam - said that currently, Vietnamese longan is in season. Last year, Central Retail Vietnam tested exporting nearly 1 ton of longan to Thailand, and we found that Thai consumers really like this product. This is also the reason why this year our longan exports to Thailand increased by 140% compared to last year. We are also making efforts to be able to export Vietnamese longan to Thailand to grow steadily every year.
Previously, in mid-July this year, Central Retail Vietnam cooperated with partners to officially export 3 tons of Luc Ngan lychee, Bac Giang to the Thai market.
Vietnamese lychees have been displayed attractively on the shelves of the Tops supermarket chain and Central Food Hall (a food retail chain of the Central Group) for sale to consumers in Bangkok. The selling price of Vietnamese lychees in Thailand is 259 baht/box, equivalent to 173,000 VND/kg.
The fact that Central Retail has cooperated with its partners to continuously successfully export lychees and longans to Thailand shows that this market has a lot of potential and many opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to seek cooperation and business opportunities.

This has strongly impacted the global rice supply, raising concerns about world food security issues as well as affecting the economic recovery trend of many countries when inflation has not improved.

Dragon fruit is the second agricultural product in Vietnam to apply the carbon traceability system. (Source: Industry and Trade Newspaper) |
Binh Thuan dragon fruit has more competitive advantages
After shrimp, dragon fruit is the second agricultural product of Vietnam to apply the carbon traceability system and this will be a competitive advantage when exporting.
The electronic traceability system tracks the origin and carbon footprint of Binh Thuan dragon fruit, helping consumers know the carbon emissions in each stage of production.
This system, which is being piloted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on dragon fruit grown in Binh Thuan, was first introduced at the Digital Transformation Conference towards Green Agriculture and Sustainable Development, held on August 17 in Hanoi.
This system helps domestic consumers and importers when buying dragon fruit grown in Binh Thuan to scan the QR code to trace the origin to know the amount of carbon in each production stage, and know the level of "green" or environmentally friendly practices of this fruit.
In this system, smart devices installed in the garden will automatically measure carbon emissions and update them to the network, allowing real-time monitoring and statistics of carbon footprints.
In particular, this technology also analyzes to provide solutions to reduce carbon emissions in production. Specifically, if the garden switches from using compact bulbs to LED lighting, it will help reduce up to 68% of emissions from electricity use.
In addition, intercropping woody plants on embankments, borders, and open spaces in the garden will help absorb a significant amount of carbon emitted by dragon fruit trees. It is estimated that if the garden plants 100-300 woody plants/ha, it will absorb 0.9-2.8 tons of CO2 /ha/year, equivalent to a 20-45% reduction in emissions.
