Blockbuster producer of "Avatar", "Titanic" dies of cancer

Jon Landau, the producer behind the blockbuster series "Avatar" and "Titanic" associated with James Cameron, died at the age of 64 from cancer.

Jon Landau, the legendary Oscar-winning producer behind James Cameron's Avatar and Titanic series, died on July 5, PEOPLE reported. The cause of death was cancer, but Jon Landau's family did not provide any further details.

Jon Landau has had a close relationship with James Cameron for decades. He co-produced three of the highest-grossing films of all time, including Titanic and both Avatar films. Jon Landau is also the CEO of James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment studio. Before that, he was the Vice President of 20th Century Fox.

John Bergman, Chairman of Disney Entertainment, said Jon Landau had left an indelible mark on the history of the world film industry because of his great contribution. A series of stars including Frances Fisher of Titanic and filmmaker Peter Jackson expressed their condolences on the social network X when Jon Landau passed away.

Wētā FX, the visual effects company for the Avatar series, said: "Jon was not only a great figure in the film industry, but also a valued colleague and friend. His legacy will continue to inspire for years to come."
