On May 26, in Nghe An, Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company Vinamilk officially announced its roadmap to Net Zero 2050 with the action program "Vinamilk Pathway to Dairy Net Zero 2050".
Notably, at the event, Vinamilk was also confirmed as the first dairy company in Vietnam to have a factory and farm that achieves carbon neutrality according to PAS 2060 standards. This event marks a memorable milestone in Vinamilk's pioneering journey in sustainable development.
Delegates and Vinamilk performed the ceremony to announce the roadmap towards Net Zero 2050 at the event.
The announcement of the roadmap to Net Zero 2050 with the action program "Vinamilk Pathway to Dairy Net Zero 2050" shows Vinamilk's pioneering role towards implementing the Vietnamese Government's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 (Net Zero 2050) as announced by the Prime Minister at the COP26 Climate Change Conference held in the UK in 2021.
As a leading dairy enterprise in Vietnam, with a system of high-tech factories and farms and millions of products supplied every day, Vinamilk has built an action program focusing on 4 key areas: sustainable agriculture - green production - environmentally friendly logistics - sustainable consumption.
In particular, the roadmap announced by Vinamilk at the event is: cutting 15% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2027, cutting and neutralizing 55% of emissions by 2035 and moving towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
Mr. Nguyen Hanh Phuc - Chairman of Vinamilk's Board of Directors shared about Vinamilk's commitment to the Net Zero goal.
In particular, after completing the greenhouse gas inventory at the units in 2022, Vinamilk Nghe An Dairy Factory and Vinamilk Nghe An Dairy Farm became the first units to achieve carbon neutrality according to the PAS2060:2014 standard. Accordingly, Vinamilk was also confirmed as the first dairy company in Vietnam to have both the factory and the farm achieving carbon neutrality according to this standard (*).
According to the published and confirmed report, the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions of these two units that have been neutralized is 17,560 tons of CO2 (equivalent to about 1.7 million trees). This is the result of a “double action”, Vinamilk’s efforts to reduce emissions in production and livestock, while maintaining the company’s tree fund to absorb greenhouse gases over the years.

Representatives of international organizations awarded carbon neutral certificates to leaders of Vinamilk's milk factory and farm in Nghe An.
Sharing about the PAS 2060 standard on carbon neutrality, Ms. Nguyen Dinh Minh Tam, representative of BSI (British Standards Institution) - the unit that certified Nghe An dairy factory, highly appreciated Vinamilk's methodical orientation as one of the few units that started with an accurate and thorough greenhouse gas inventory early on, thereby building emission reduction roadmaps.
Ms. Minh Tam believes that with Vinamilk's strong commitment to the Net Zero 2050 target, more Vinamilk units will soon achieve the carbon neutral target in the near future.
According to a representative of Bureau Veritas (UK), the unit that certifies Vinamilk's farm in Nghe An, reducing emissions, greenhouse gases and moving towards Net Zero in the dairy industry is very challenging, especially for large-scale dairy farms.
Mr. Matthew Albon Crouch - Agricultural Attaché (Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore), British Embassy highly appreciated Vinamilk's pioneering efforts in reducing emissions.
This goal requires comprehensive investment in technological solutions, green energy conversion, and circular economy application. It can be said that Vinamilk's achievements are very remarkable and have great encouragement value for the Net Zero process of the dairy industry in general - Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, General Director of Bureau Veritas assessed.
In Vietnam, Vinamilk is a company that has been making many positive contributions to the more sustainable development of the dairy industry, while strongly promoting the process towards Net Zero 2050. Since 2012, Vinamilk has published a sustainable development report according to international standards, to accurately record and evaluate its advanced practices. Up to now, in the strategic period of 2022 - 2026, sustainable development has become one of Vinamilk's four strategic spearheads.
Ms. Tran Thi Lan Anh - General Secretary of VCCI, representative of the Business Council for Sustainable Development shared about the specific goals of the Government's Net Zero 2050 commitment.
Ms. Mai Kieu Lien - General Director of Vinamilk shared: " Looking back on our journey towards sustainable development, Vinamilk realizes that this is the right direction and has made decisions very early.
Today's event, in addition to demonstrating the company's commitment to the community and people of Vietnam, Vinamilk also hopes to contribute to strongly conveying positive messages to the business community, joining hands with the government on the journey of the Net Zero mission - a journey for a greener, more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations ."
Representatives of the Vietnam Children's Fund and Vinamilk Nghe An Milk Factory donated milk to the Nghe An Provincial Children's Fund.
Managing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to reducing carbon footprints is one of the key sustainable development aspects that Vinamilk is actively implementing. For example, currently, 13 farms and 10 factories of Vinamilk have been fully installed with solar energy, while promoting green energy such as Biomass (at the factory) and Biogas (at the farm).
Vinamilk also invested heavily in building a dairy farm model like Green Farm oriented towards sustainable agriculture. The factories were all strongly transformed, applying high technology, applying circular economy from a very early stage to reduce emissions.
Factory and farm staff joined the children in performing the song Heal the World, showing solidarity for the goal of Net Zero for a more beautiful and sustainable earth.
Integrating to learn, Vinamilk is also the first Vietnamese dairy enterprise to participate in the Global Initiative of the dairy industry on Net Zero - Pathways to Dairy Net Zero, founded by the International Dairy Federation (IDF), the Dairy Sustainable Development Framework (DSF), Global Dairy Platform...
Some sideline activities of the event: contributing trees, finding information, visiting the Koi fish pond using treated wastewater from the factory
To prepare for the future, since 2012, Vinamilk has implemented the 1 Million Trees Fund for Vietnam, completing the planting of 1,121,000 trees by the end of 2020. In 2023, continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment to implement tree planting activities to neutralize carbon towards Net Zero within 5 years 2023 - 2027 and many other tree planting projects to form Vinamilk forests in the green tree fund to help absorb carbon emissions.
