The cyber attack on the technology system of VNDIRECT Securities Joint Stock Company has been basically resolved. VNDIRECT said that it has restored the system and is reviewing and evaluating the system to ensure absolute safety and security for customers transacting at the unit.
VNDIRECT's latest announcement on the afternoon of March 27 said that securities investors participating in transactions through this company can now access the My Account lookup system at Myaccount.vndirect.com.vn to check account status and balance, and change account passwords.
According to the plan, it is expected that the system of money transactions, basic securities transactions and derivatives on the basis of communication with the Stock Exchange; Other financial products; and all other features of the VNDIRECT system will continue to be reopened by this enterprise and put back into operation in the near future.
However, in reality, on the afternoon of March 27, after VNDIRECT announced the opening of the My Account account lookup system, some investors reported to VietNamNet that they were still unable to log in. Along with that, some investors could only log in on the web interface, not on the application. For example, from the afternoon to the evening of March 27, Mr. HQ (Nam Dinh) tried to log in to his account on the securities company's system three times but all reported errors, with a message showing that VNDIRECT was under maintenance.
According to Ms. TH (Hanoi), after more than 3 days of interruption, this small investor was able to log into the system and change the password as recommended by VNDIRECT. However, Ms. TH then had difficulty re-entering the system with the new password. "About 30 minutes later, I was able to log back in with the new password. It seems that the system is still not operating normally compared to before the attack," this investor commented.
The unstable operating status and possible errors have also been previously notified by VNDIRECT to customers in a new notice: "Because the system has just been restored and may have a large number of customers accessing it, if an error occurs, we kindly ask for your understanding and patience, and please wait and reload the page at another time."
Commenting that VNDIRECT's opening of the system so that users can change their account passwords is a commendable effort, expert Vu Ngoc Son, Technical Director of Vietnam National Cyber Security Technology Joint Stock Company - NCS, said that the most important thing for customers is to quickly change their passwords.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Son also commented that rebuilding the system after being attacked is not difficult for the operation team, but the important thing is to find the path the hacker entered the system to prevent it from being attacked again.
“To completely fix the problem, the operating unit may have to change the entire system architecture, so it will still take more time for the system to operate stably and smoothly. Currently, investors need to be patient, sympathetic and cooperative so that VNDIRECT can focus on handling the problem and soon bring products, services and utilities back to normal trading,” said Mr. Vu Ngoc Son.
