Ha Quynh Nhu - a childhood of "eating and sleeping with wallets and giặm"

The most famous name is Ha Quynh Nhu (born 2004) in Yen Thanh district, when she was 7 years old and showed her rare talent for folk singing. Since 2015, Quynh Nhu has quickly become a phenomenon when all of her folk songs were passed around to enjoy by netizens. During those years, Quynh Nhu regularly participated in large and small stages at the commune and district levels and she soon received the attention of artisans as well as artists from the Provincial Traditional Arts Center, including People's Artist Hong Luu.
Quynh Nhu was guided by People's Artist Hong Luu from the very first steps and has made amazing progress. She participated in the Sen Village Singing Festival and won first prize with the song "Ten graces of parents", and also received the award for most promising young actor. Immediately after that, she also completely conquered other provincial competitions with the titles of Champion and Runner-up. From then on, Ha Quynh Nhu was expected to be a folk singer who would soon become famous in the future.
In 2017, for the first time standing on the big stage of “Future Idol” season 1, with her soulful and profound voice, Ha Quynh Nhu left the first impression in the hearts of the audience with the song “Ve Ha Tinh nguoi oi”, and was highly praised by the judges. With her forte in singing Vi and Giam folk songs, Quynh Nhu brought a completely new color, never seen before in any singing talent search program.
In 2018, this young girl continued to win the championship in the program "The Voice Kids" with her special folk singing voice. Quynh Nhu said: "Even though I have grown up with new musical colors, I still always take folk songs as a solid support. For me, folk songs are my flesh and blood, the source of music; it is the lullaby my mother used when I was a child, the sound of my hometown where I grew up and also the voice of every child of Nghe An. Folk songs have given me almost everything, especially enriching my soul...", Ha Quynh Nhu shared.
Recently, Ha Quynh Nhu had the opportunity to reunite with People's Artist Hong Luu and together they performed the song "Ten graces of parents" very emotionally. It is worth mentioning that after many years of not "eating folk songs, sleeping folk songs", Quynh Nhu still emphasized and let her soul flow very emotionally in each note of "Ten graces of parents". People's Artist Hong Luu said: "Having a young folk talent like Quynh Nhu is not something easy to come across in today's contemporary life, it is these talents that will help folk songs fly further. Because even if the child pursues a different musical path, it is the folk music essence that will bring her back to the most important thing, which is the music of her homeland".
Expectations for new nuclei
Little girl Ha Vy (14 years old), from Hung Thanh commune (Hung Nguyen) is a very promising singer at the Folk Song Festival in schools, when the Xam verses she sang in her performance were admired and praised by the judges and the entire audience that day. Not only singing Xam, Ha Vy also sings many genres of Nghe Tinh Folk Songs very well. Also at this program, the Folk Song Team in Hung Nguyen district schools was awarded the Third Prize. Ha Vy is an important factor in the delegation participating in the Festival, because she is the one who stands in for many of the troupe's key performances. Ha Vy has a high, expressive voice, good vibrato and a strong breath, especially, her folk singing style, although it is said to be discovered late, is very smooth and very emotional.
Ha Vy said: “I fell in love with folk songs early through my mother’s teachings, because she sang very well and was also a member of the village and commune’s art troupe. However, I have never joined the Village and Commune Folk Song Club because of my shyness and lack of confidence in front of a crowd. It was only when the music teacher at my school guided me step by step that I had the opportunity to express myself.”

And from then on, Ha Vy was trained by her teacher and sang her first songs of various genres in folk music. One special thing is that although she sings Giam songs very well, she really loves Xam. Ha Vy said: “Xam is a typical genre of folk music, it expresses the mood of the times, so when singing, the performer must comply with the sound elements of the genre, but also must know how to emphasize the content of the Xam song to meet the requirements. In the past, Xam was often performed at markets or communal houses, but now Xam is often performed at festivals and singing talent competitions”. Overcoming her shyness, touching the path of folk music, now Ha Vy only wishes to have more new stages, new playgrounds to express herself most fully.

The second child, according to People's Artist Hong Luu, has a passionate and pure voice and soul in love with folk songs - that is the boy Nguyen Cong Anh from Nam Dan district, only 11 years old this year. His mother, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan, said that the boy has loved folk songs since he was a child and always looked up to the image of People's Artist Hong Luu. He loves folk songs so much that he knows all the old folk songs with difficult lyrics such as "Mother's Song", "Ten Graces of Parents" and whenever he comes home, he sings and hums folk songs.
In the Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival, towards the Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival held in Nam Dan district recently, Cong Anh's Blue Lotus Club won the First Prize, in which this boy won 2 double prizes: the Best Child Actor Award and the B Prize for the performance "Mother's Song". Talking about this event, Cong Anh's mother said: I entered the competition hoping to meet Ms. Hong Luu and chose that song just to be able to perform for the People's Artist whom I always admired to know my ability. But unfortunately, Ms. Hong Luu was busy and could not come to watch and judge the performance, so I was quite disappointed, my singing was not as good as usual. Cong Anh also said: "I won the B Prize which is also a precious reward, however, if Ms. Hong Luu was sitting below watching, I would definitely be much more sublime".

Cong Anh inherited his father's dominant singing genes. His father is a hard-working artist in the provincial police department, and is also a very good folk singer, which has made him imbued with folk music since he was a child. "Most of the areas where I live, almost every night, women and girls sing folk songs, or play folk music tapes to practice, this has unintentionally seeped into my mind and emotions, making me truly love folk music without knowing it" - Cong Anh shared. This young person also affirmed that he will follow the path of folk music for the rest of his life, despite the thorns.
“To preserve Vi and Giam folk songs, we must first nurture the seeds of folk songs in the young generation” - that is the affirmation of People's Artist Hong Luu. Indeed, if we do not take care of the young buds, if we do not create an environment and find ways to spread this love among the young, folk songs will forever be reserved for the aunts, uncles, grandmothers, and sisters. And the story of preserving and promoting the folk song heritage will encounter many thorns when the target audience we "addict" is only middle-aged, while the young generation is still a gap.
