This morning (May 26), Thuan An City Police, Binh Duong Province, said that the unit is coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate and clarify the case of a woman who suffered severe burns, suspected of self-immolation in her rented room.
The victim is Ms. VNPH (59 years old, from Ho Chi Minh City), currently renting a room in Lai Thieu ward, Thuan An city, Binh Duong province.
According to initial information, on the morning of the same day, residents living in a row of rented houses in Dong Tu quarter, Lai Thieu ward discovered fire coming from in front of Ms. H's rented room.
At this time, some people ran to help put out the fire. When the fire was extinguished, Mrs. H. was found lying motionless on the floor. The victim was then taken to the emergency room with severe burns on her body.
According to relatives, Ms. H. has been renting a room in this area for over 10 years, and every day she sells drinking water to make a living. Before the incident, Ms. H. confided to many people that she was having difficulties, had run out of money to live on, and had to prepare to move to another place.
On the afternoon of May 25, her family bought a can of gasoline to bring back to their rented room to pour into their motorbike. However, before they could use it, this morning, Mrs. H. was found on fire with a strong smell of gasoline, suspected to have been self-immolation.
The police are currently investigating the incident.
