In recent days, social networks have been spreading information that "a woman in Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang province) violated traffic laws 26 times in 1 month and was fined nearly 20 million VND".
These articles attract tens of thousands of interactions, hundreds of comments and shares on social networking platforms.
According to information from Hiep Hoa District Police, through traffic surveillance cameras, the unit recorded a series of motorbikes repeatedly violating traffic safety order during the period from February 1 to February 29.
Of which, Ms. NTT’s motorbike (41 years old, residing in Thang town, Hiep Hoa district) was recorded with 26 violations. Of these, 10 were for not wearing a helmet and 16 were for not obeying traffic lights (running red lights).
After looking up the vehicle registration database, Hiep Hoa District Police sent a notice of violation to the vehicle owner.
Along with that, on the Facebook page of this unit posted pictures of some violations, including Ms. NTT.
Ms. T. admitted her actions and accepted the administrative penalty.
Explaining the reason, she said there were two houses in the area, about 500m apart. She often moved between the two houses to sell fresh flowers. One of the houses was located right at the intersection, opposite a traffic light.
Because she was subjective about the short distance, she often rode her motorbike without a helmet, but only a pith helmet. "As for the violation of running a red light, because my house is right next to a lamppost, sometimes just driving from my house to the other side of the road without paying attention is also a violation," she said.
When reviewing the images provided by the police, Ms. T. confirmed that the images of her and her family members riding the motorbike were all "hit" with a fine. However, she was the owner of the vehicle, so the police invited her to come in for questioning.
"I was surprised, but I signed the fine because it was true that I and my family violated the law. This is a lesson not only for me but also for my husband and children," she said.
Notably, after the incident, Ms. T.'s photos at the police station and her personal information were posted all over forums and social networks. Many people even called her "crazy driver" or "the woman with the most fines in Hiep Hoa" with pictures that did not blur her face.
Ms. T. said she agreed with the authorities posting traffic violations to deter and warn others. However, not covering up the images and personal information of violators caused her a lot of trouble.
"My life has been turned upside down by hundreds of abusive comments online. Relatives and loved ones keep calling to check on me. I don't even dare to open my phone to read messages and refuse to answer calls ," said Ms. T.
She also said that up to now, the authorities have only drawn up a record, have not announced the fine amount and she has not paid the fine as some social networking sites have posted.
