Having an accident while driving, Ms. PBN (42 years old, residing in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City) was stabbed in the left leg by a motorbike kickstand and was promptly taken to the hospital for emergency treatment by local people.
Ms. N. was hospitalized with a bleeding leg, skin abrasions, and a motorcycle kickstand piercing her left leg. A CT scan showed that she had an open fracture of both bones in her left leg.
After receiving the patient, the doctors of the Emergency Department coordinated with the doctors of the Orthopedic Trauma Department, Xuyen A General Hospital, to immediately stop the bleeding, bandage the wound and perform surgery to remove the foreign object from the patient's leg.
The patient was taken to the emergency room with a motorcycle kickstand stuck in his leg.
On November 19, specialist doctor Nguyen Duy Toan, Xuyen A General Hospital, said that the patient was anesthetized, the wound was disinfected and the foreign object was removed. During the procedure, the team tried not to cause damage to the surrounding soft tissues.
After removing the kickstand from the lower leg, the team washed the crushed tissue, cut and sutured the torn tendon. After 7 days, the patient underwent a second surgery to fuse the bone with intramedullary nails.
After surgery, Ms. N. was monitored and treated for her wound at the Orthopedic Trauma Department. Currently, her health condition is stable, blood circulation is good, no pus, no swelling. She was instructed in rehabilitation exercises.
Dr. Nguyen Duy Toan said that in cases like Ms. N.'s, if not treated promptly, it could lead to infection, embolism, and in severe cases, loss of the leg. In similar cases of accidents involving foreign objects penetrating the body, people should not arbitrarily remove the foreign object, but should bandage the wound and quickly take the victim to a medical facility.
