The project “Train Line No. 6” with the name “Subsidized Car: Kitchen – Cupboard – Tray” located at the intersection of Ngu Xa – Truc Bach (Truc Bach Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) recreates old Hanoi and introduces Vietnamese culture and cuisine.
This is a project directed by the People's Committee of Truc Bach Ward, providing a special exhibition space and experience during the subsidy period. The train is open to visitors for free.
“Train Line No. 6” is named after the idea of a tram line continuing the mission of the old Hanoi tram system of 5 lines, which stopped operating in 1991. This is an unforgettable part of the memories of the people of the capital living in the last century.
The kitchen area with familiar items of Hanoi families in the 80s and 90s of the last century. The kitchen with tripod, firewood, cast iron pots and pans, pestle, mortar, thermos, kerosene stove... is vividly recreated.
The interior of “Train Line 6” displays old artifacts, taking visitors back to life during the subsidy period. The train is likened to a “miniature museum” with many old items.
The tray area recreates the trays of food and dishes that were once associated with the memories of a difficult time such as pickled cabbage, pickled eggplant, roasted peanuts mixed with fat, boiled water spinach, mixed vegetables, boiled jackfruit seeds, burnt rice, Chinese jujube, braised shrimp with star fruit...
Inside the train are displayed real items from the subsidy period, these are collectibles or donated by the people.
Many young people come here to take photos and check-in with the space of Hanoi's subsidy period.
Ms. Bich (Ha Dong, Hanoi) shared: "I am a native of Hanoi so I really like to come here to see and feel, to look back at my childhood memories."
Many tourists agree that the objects in the train car such as cupboards, jars, pots, etc. are very similar to their childhood memories, reminding them of the time of poverty and hardship.
Mr. Bach (a resident of Truc Bach ward) shared that the train car is uniquely designed. Sitting and drinking a glass of iced tea in a space reminiscent of old times brings many emotions.
The train also has a newsstand and chess area for visitors to experience the space imbued with Vietnamese culture during the subsidy period.
Besides displaying old artifacts, Toa Bao Cap also serves dishes and drinks with the rich flavors of old Hanoi. The menu is quite diverse with rustic dishes such as iced tea, wormwood, lam tea, popcorn, etc.
