Indonesia has issued its first 'golden visa' to Sam Altman just a week after the program was announced. According to Slimy Karim, Director General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Indonesia, there are several types of golden visas that are not based on investment/capital investment. One of them is the golden visa issued to globally prestigious figures who can bring benefits to Indonesia.
“With this golden visa, we hope Altman will contribute to the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia,” said Mr. Karim.
Altman’s golden visa is valid for 10 years. With a golden visa in hand, American businessmen will have priority screening at airports across the country, along with longer stays and easier entry and exit.
Altman – who co-founded OpenAI with Elon Musk – visited Indonesia earlier this year as part of a business trip to several major Asian cities, including Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Singapore.
OpenAI's ChatGPT went viral when it launched in late 2022, thanks to its human-like responses. Just two months after its launch, the chatbot surpassed 100 million users.
In a recent open letter, Altman and other tech leaders warned that AI poses a risk to human existence on par with nuclear war and stressed that mitigating the risk should be a global priority.
