Veteran builds President Ho Chi Minh Memorial

A corner of the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area in Phuoc Tan village, Phuoc Dong commune, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province. This project was built by Mr. Bui Xuan Phuoc with his own heart, effort and money to show his respect and gratitude to beloved Uncle Ho.

Mr. Bui Xuan Phuoc (89 years old), born in Da Nang, grew up in Phu Yen. Mr. Phuoc started participating in the revolution at the age of 15, and experienced two resistance wars against the French and the Americans.

After the country gained independence, Mr. Phuoc returned to his hometown Phu Khanh to participate in the establishment of the Museum and was assigned the position of Head of the Conservation Department, Museum of Phu Khanh Cultural Information Department.

In 1989, Phu Khanh province was split into two provinces, Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen. Mr. Phuoc was transferred to Tuy Hoa to work as Director of Phu Yen Provincial Museum until his retirement in 1995.

As a soldier and a citizen during the war, Mr. Phuoc deeply understood the difficulties and hardships of colonial occupation and oppression, and through that, he saw the great sacrifice of Uncle Ho - who devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation of the Vietnamese people, contributing to the common struggle of nations for peace, independence, democracy and social progress.

Out of respect and gratitude to Uncle Ho, in October 1997, he began construction of the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial on his family's 2,200m2 land in Phuoc Dong commune, 7km southwest of Nha Trang city center.

In 1997-2000, Mr. Phuoc completed the construction of Uncle Ho Temple and put it into use.

The statue of Uncle Ho was presented to Khanh Hoa province by the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Management Board, then brought to the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area built by Mr. Phuoc.

During the period 2000-2010, Mr. Phuoc traveled across the country to collect documents and artifacts about President Ho Chi Minh, to display in the memorial area.

According to Mr. Phuoc, currently at the memorial site there are over 100 valuable artifacts, images, and documents about Uncle Ho.

This memorial site of President Ho Chi Minh is considered by the officials and people of Khanh Hoa province as a "red address" to educate the spirit of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style; a truly meaningful tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

Mr. Bui Cao Phap, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuoc Dong Commune, said that every year, many units of departments, branches, localities, and organizations of Khanh Hoa province come to the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area built by Mr. Phuoc to offer incense, participate in political activities, educate about traditions, and organize ceremonies to admit new Party members and Youth Union members.

In 2020, Mr. Bui Xuan Phuoc was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for his outstanding achievements in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle.

In addition, Mr. Phuoc also received many awards and certificates of merit from the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the Vietnam Veterans Association, the People's Committee of Nha Trang city and the People's Committee of Phuoc Dong commune.
