Children are upset.
For many months, Ms. Le Kieu Nga (52 years old, residing in Dong Da district, Hanoi - originally from Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh) has not been able to eat well or sleep well because her family's graves have been violated by bad people.
Reflecting to Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Nga said she had written a complaint about this incident to the authorities.
According to the complaint, Mrs. Nga's family and clan have a joint grave (buried in the same grave) including an old lady named Le Thi Nam and two young grandchildren.
"These are my great-grandfather and two aunts. Because the two aunts died when they were young, when they were reburied in 1966, relatives took a handful of soil from the two graves and buried them with Mr. Nam. The graves share a coffin (the outer layer containing the coffin - PV), buried in the area of Dap Nga, Dong Xa village, Hoa Lac commune, Duc Tho district," said Ms. Nga.
From February 25, 2023, Ms. Nga was assigned by the family to take care of and manage the joint burial tomb.
In 2023, Ms. Nga's family and relatives wish to exhume and move the graves of these three people to be buried at Trang Nhat cemetery (Hoa Lac commune) of the Le Xuan family.
However, on August 6, 2023, Ms. Nga and her relatives and a team of workers excavated and exhumed the grave, but did not find any remains. For more than 4 hours, they dug and searched by hand around the area but still had no results, so they were forced to report the incident to the local authorities.
"According to some people around the area, a few years ago, someone arbitrarily excavated and removed the grave to bury it in the Nui Thap cemetery area, in Dong Xa village, Hoa Lac commune (about 300m from the old location - PV). This is a serious incident related to ethics and morality between the living and the deceased," Ms. Nga was indignant.
According to the accuser, she has twice written a petition to report the incident to the authorities of Hoa Lac commune and Duc Tho district in the hope of finding the culprit suspected of violating corpses, graves, and remains.
Then, Duc Tho District Police coordinated with Hoa Lac Commune Police and other relevant agencies to investigate.
Now, more than 5 months later, Ms. Nga's family is anxiously waiting for results from the authorities.
Meanwhile, the burial tomb is suspected to have been violated by bad guys and its exact location has not been determined. This has greatly affected the incense offering and worship of the deceased by Mrs. Nga's family and descendants in the clan.
"Steal the remains and move them to another place and then build a fake grave?"
Speaking with Dan Tri reporter, a leader of Hoa Lac Commune People's Committee (Duc Tho district) confirmed that on August 6, 2023, the authorities received a report from Ms. Le Kieu Nga about the suspected robbery of the joint grave of the three deceased people mentioned above.
The commune then directly reported to the district. In the afternoon of the same day (August 6, 2023), the district coordinated with the commune to establish a working group to directly go to the scene to inspect, make a record and take statements from relevant witnesses.
The district police also sent a working group to investigate the case. According to some initial information, the above mentioned joint burial grave is suspected to have been robbed since around 2013.
"The suspect of the theft had set up a fake grave at the old location. In fact, the real grave, as reported by the locals, was buried next to the road to Nui Thap cemetery. This place is a grove of trees, along a stream. The tombstone of the old grave was found here," he informed.
According to this leader, the descendants of the Le Xuan family, including Ms. Le Kieu Nga, currently live and work far from home. Every year, during the holidays, Ms. Nga and her siblings and relatives often return to visit and take care of the incense.
Therefore, when the bad guys suspected of robbing the grave, they did not detect it in time. Moreover, when they returned after a long time, the traces of impact and disturbance would be gone.
In 2023, Ms. Nga was informed by a resident living near the grave and shown the location of the suspected new burial site, then the incident was revealed.
"During the verification process, the police invited a number of suspects involved to work. However, I do not know more about the investigation and the results," the commune leader informed.
On January 17, speaking by phone with Dan Tri reporter, a leader of Duc Tho District Police said that they are investigating and verifying the case in accordance with the procedures and regulations of the law on receiving reports of crimes. "We are investigating, the results are being worked on," he said.
