Suspect in attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump faces gun possession charges

On September 16, the suspect in the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump was charged with two gun-related crimes.

Specifically, at a federal court in West Palm Beach, suspect Ryan Wesley Routh, 58 years old, living in Hawaii, was charged with possessing a gun despite having a criminal record and possessing a gun with an erased serial number.

The suspect is likely to face more serious charges as police continue their investigation and prosecutors move forward with the prosecution.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Trump's campaign team said that multiple shots were fired at the Republican presidential candidate while he was playing golf at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, but that he was fortunately safe. The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was later arrested.

According to CNN, immediately after the attempted assassination, Mr. Trump posted a message on his fundraising website, affirming that he was safe, healthy and fearless.

This is the second assassination attempt on Mr. Trump in just two months.
