"I am ready to fly to Krakow (a Polish city near Ukraine) and across the Ukrainian border to volunteer and fight and die," Routh wrote in March 2022, a month after Russia launched its campaign in Ukraine.
Last year, he used his Facebook account to encourage foreigners to join the war. Since October 2023, Mr. Routh has sought to contact Afghans in a series of posts, presenting himself as an off-the-books contact for the Ukrainian government .

"Afghanistan, Ukraine soldiers are needed 3,000 soldiers, so I need those who have passports to send me a copy of their passports to send to Ukraine," Mr. Routh wrote.
He has been interviewed by American and foreign media about the above effort. In an article on X in June 2020, attached to Mr. Trump's name, Mr. Routh said: "While he was my choice in 2016, I and the world hoped that President Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we are all extremely disappointed and he seems to be getting worse. I will be happy when he is gone."

Mr Routh’s LinkedIn page says he started a company in Hawaii in 2018 to build affordable housing. A person in Hawaii once commissioned Mr Routh to build a shopping cart but said he got a backlash after expressing dissatisfaction with the product.
Routh also posted comments on X regarding the assassination of Mr. Trump in Pennsylvania in July. In a post addressed to Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, Routh wrote: "You and Mr. Biden should go to the hospital to visit the people injured at Mr. Trump's rally and attend the funeral of the firefighter who died. Mr. Trump will never do anything for them."
In an April article that referenced President Biden's account, Routh suggested that the now-defunct leader's campaign slogan should be "Preserving American Democracy and Freedom" while Trump's campaign slogan should be "Sending Americans Back to Slavery."
Police search an old house in Greensboro, North Carolina believed to be owned by the suspect in the September 15 Florida shooting.
Official North Carolina records show that Mr. Routh registered as a voter in 2012. He voted in the state’s Democratic primary in March of this year. He contributed more than $100 to an organization that handles donations for the Democratic Party.
He was also arrested in North Carolina in 2002 after a gun incident and has been accused of failing to pay his taxes on time. Records show that Routh is involved in several other lawsuits, according to CNN.
Although he appears to live in Hawaii, Mr. Routh is believed to have spent much of his time in North Carolina.
Oran Routh, son of Ryan Wesley Routh, said his father was a loving, caring, hardworking and honest man. Oran told The Guardian that he had not been able to contact his father since the Florida shooting.
