Comedian Tan Beo suffered a stroke and had to undergo rehabilitation and physical therapy for the past year.
On September 5, Tan Loc - actor Tan Beo's son - said that his father suffered a stroke in mid-2023. After waking up one night, he was fortunately discovered by relatives in time and taken to the emergency room. Tan Beo's condition is currently progressing well, he can walk and have some simple conversations, but must continue physical therapy in Ho Chi Minh City.
Tan Beo is being cared for by his wife and some relatives. However, doctors have not yet determined when the actor will fully recover, nor are they sure about his chances of returning to the stage.
When Tan Beo was seriously ill, his family did not speak out because they did not want to worry the audience and at the same time wanted to maintain a good image of him. But recently, a video of the actor having lunch at a rehabilitation center has been circulating on social media. Many viewers were worried when the artist looked thin, his hands shaking as he scooped rice. When the person filming the video asked him about acupuncture and exercise, Tan Beo only replied: "Fine" and waved to the audience.
Wanting to avoid negative rumors, the actor's family revealed his health status. "In the past, my father always appeared in public with a happy, optimistic image, not the haggard appearance he has now," said the actor's son. The family representative also said they do not accept donations or support.

Before suffering a stroke, in March 2023, artist Tan Beo also fell down the stairs, falling freely more than 10 steps, and lost consciousness. The fall caused soft tissue injury, causing Tan Beo to have pain in his back and hips, making it difficult for him to sit and lie down. At that time, Tan Beo said he did not go to the hospital for a check-up because he did not think it was necessary.
Before the health incident, the actor said he had a peaceful life, "having three meals a day and enough clothes to wear". He did not act in many films or participate in big shows, but still accepted invitations to tour the provinces of the West and Central regions every month. Compared to the golden age of comedy, Tan Beo's show frequency has decreased by more than half. However, he is not sad because he still receives affection from the audience.
"When I met him on the street, they asked why he hadn't acted in a movie for a long time, which meant they were still interested and looking forward to it. I was just afraid that people would say: This guy appears so much that it's boring," Tan Beo said at that time.
Artist Tan Beo's real name is Tan Danh, 59 years old, son of vọng cổ artist Tan Tai - nicknamed "emperor of vinyl records". In the 1980s, he performed cải lương with troupes in the West. In 1996, cải lương was on the decline, and Tân Beo, Tấn Bo - his younger brother - and comedian Mỹ Chi formed a comedy group. After that, the Tân Beo brothers separated and worked independently.
In 2003, Tan Beo and his younger brother won the "Best Actor, Comedy Group" award with the skit Why go to the temple? at the Laughter Gala. Tan Beo also won the Mai Vang 2003 Best Comedian Award. He also participated in movies and television shows such as When a man is pregnant, Vo Lam Truyen Ky, Coriander smell.
