Vietnam Day Abroad continues to be present in Brazil and Saudi Arabia

With two events held in Brazil and Saudi Arabia in 2024, the Vietnam Day Abroad program continues to be present on the world map.


On November 6, in Hanoi, the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a press conference to inform about the program of Vietnam Day Abroad in 2024.

With the theme “Convergence of the millennium’s quintessence - Rising in the new era”, this year’s program will be held in Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Brazil diplomatic relations and in the capital Riyadh on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Vietnam-Saudi Arabia diplomatic relations.

This is the 12th year the Vietnam Day Abroad program has been organized, with the goal of promoting the image of the country, people and culture of Vietnam to international friends; contributing to deepening and sustaining the relationship between Vietnam and other countries and strengthening friendship, understanding and mutual trust between people of other countries and Vietnam.

Introducing the essence of a thousand years

According to the Organizing Committee, this year's Vietnam Day Abroad will be held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from November 15-17, right before the G20 Summit.

This is the time when the 20 largest economies of the planet and many member countries gather together, an opportunity for the Program to reach a large number of high-level delegates attending the Conference, thereby contributing to spreading the content and activities to the Brazilian people and many international friends.

Vietnam Day in Brazil is expected to feature many performances that require elaborate and professional preparation, introducing for the first time the most unique cultural features of Vietnam, such as lion and dragon dances or water puppetry.

The organizers and artists have worked together to promote creativity to design compact and flexible performance props that still ensure performance quality and ease of use.

Next, the Vietnam Day program in Saudi Arabia will be held from December 13-15 in the capital Riyadh.

The program continues to introduce the Vietnamese cultural space imbued with identity to the local public, with many unique experiences, such as making traditional clay figurines, printing Dong Ho folk paintings and creating sophisticated lacquer works.

Traditional musical instrument artists also play the role of "to nu" to recreate the Tu Binh painting in real life, promising to be a very unique way to promote Vietnamese culture, leaving a deep impression on the hearts of attendees.

Content revolving around Vietnamese cuisine is also focused on, to meet the needs of learning and enjoying of the majority of local people.

Culinary expert Nguyen Thuong Quan, Chairman of the Vocational Training and Employment Association for Chefs (VICA), is honored to be the "culinary ambassador" introducing dozens of pure Vietnamese dishes through many rich and diverse activities such as cooking workshops, receptions, display booths and cooking performances.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Lion Dance Federation will have a Flag Dance performance combined with Vovinam martial arts. The performance is built with both graceful and powerful movements, conveying the bravery of the 4,000-year-old Lac Hong nation, imbued with the identity and spirit of the Vietnamese people.

Aspiration for integration and development

Speaking at the Press Conference, Ms. Le Thi Hong Van, Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Head of the Program Organizing Committee, said that the theme "Convergence of the quintessence of a thousand years - Rising in the new era" aims to promote and honor the unique traditional cultural values ​​of Vietnam to international friends, promising to bring new, multi-dimensional perspectives on the thousand-year-old cultural heritage of the Vietnamese people.

Through this theme, the program not only affirms its unique cultural identity but also demonstrates Vietnam's aspiration for integration and development in the context of globalization.

Vietnam Day Abroad 2024 will include two main components: Cultural Space and Art Performance Program.

In particular, the Vietnam Cultural Space area will introduce to the international public a unique cultural exhibition and experience complex, with 10 typical cultural exchange activities.

A highlight only available at “Vietnam Day Abroad” is photo exhibitions celebrating diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the locations where the event is held.

This year, the public has the opportunity to look back at the history of the formation and development of the friendly relationship between Vietnam-Brazil and Vietnam-Saudi Arabia.

These valuable documentary photos mark historical milestones, outstanding cultural, economic and political exchange activities, contributing to honoring the journey of developing friendly and diplomatic relations.

The photo exhibition "Quintessence of Vietnamese culture" and the exhibition "World heritages in Vietnam recognized by UNESCO" bring to viewers an image of a beautiful, dynamic, rich in identity, increasingly developing and vibrant Vietnam.

In the Cultural Space, a content that promises to create great attraction is the Wall of 54 Vietnamese Ethnic Groups. This is an opportunity for international friends to learn about the customs and practices of 54 ethnic groups living together in Vietnam.

This year, the lacquer products exhibition area will be an interesting cultural exchange space, displaying works by artist Tran Anh Tuan - Head of Lacquer Department, Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts and foreign students.

In particular, the program in Brazil will showcase the works of Fabi Mesquita - a lacquer artist from the land of colorful carnival festivals.

Ms. Le Thi Hong Van emphasized: "In addition to diverse photo exhibitions, the Organizing Committee also organizes practical experience activities for participants such as wearing Nguyen Dynasty royal costumes and Vietnamese ao dai, artisans will directly introduce traditional Vietnamese art forms, interact and guide viewers to directly experience the steps of creating cultural products".

At the press conference, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi and Vietnamese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dang Xuan Dung sent messages welcoming the event of Vietnam Day Abroad 2024.

The Ambassadors stated that Brazil and Saudi Arabia are both countries with great potential for developing cultural cooperation. Organizing national promotion programs in these two locations is extremely necessary, contributing to strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship with Vietnam; at the same time, enhancing the image and presence of Vietnam on the world map.

Vietnam Day Abroad is a national promotion program assigned by the Prime Minister to the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to preside over and coordinate with relevant units, and to be organized annually since 2010.

The program often takes place on the sidelines of activities, visits of high-ranking leaders or on the occasion of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and other countries.

During that time, Vietnam Day Abroad has "set foot" in 20 countries and territories, having the opportunity to introduce the country, people, and many cultural quintessence of Vietnam to many international friends. After 12 years of organization, the program has built its own brand in the hearts of the public and always received active participation and response both at home and abroad.
