2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange. With many rich, diverse, practical and meaningful activities, this activity has left deep impressions, continuing to contribute to spreading the friendship and solidarity between the armies and peoples of the two countries.

"Meeting point" of friendship
One day at the end of the year, the Vietnam - China Border Friendship Cultural House (Ban Lau Commune, Muong Khuong District, Lao Cai Province) was filled with laughter and greetings. About 20 people from Ban Lau Commune prepared tea, medicine, fruit... to welcome their neighbors from Nam Khe Town, Yunnan Province, China, a sister town of Ban Lau. When nearly 10 people from Tam Binh Ba Group and Dien Phong Group (Nam Khe Town) entered the door of the cultural house, people from Coc Phuong Village and Na Loc 4 Village (both in Ban Lau Commune) shook hands and greeted them.
While inviting each other to drink tea, they discussed daily life, shared experiences in farming, raising livestock... This was a visit between neighbors sharing the Ba Ket River, the river that forms the natural border between Vietnam and China. More than 10 years ago, in August 2013, Coc Phuong village became twinned with Tam Binh Ba group. Then, in May 2015, Na Loc 4 village became twinned with Dien Phong group.
According to Mr. Sung Nha (Na Loc 4 village), after becoming brothers, the two sides got to know each other, interacted with each other and became close. The people of both sides can speak and understand the languages.
It is known that the villagers of Coc Phuong and Tam Binh Ba groups also pooled money to buy a drum to serve weddings and funerals. The two sides take turns keeping this drum, and if one side has something to do, they will take it home to use. Whenever they hear the sound of the drum from the "neighbor", the villagers of both sides proactively contact each other to join hands in the work.
At 4pm, at the Vietnam-China Border Friendship Cultural House in Dong Van Commune, Binh Lieu District, Quang Ninh Province, there were about 50 people. Some groups played with 15 sets of exercise equipment donated by the Ministry of National Defense, some played soccer, some played volleyball, and some danced folk dances. The sounds of calling each other, the music, and the chatter filled the entire forest.

According to Mr. Hoang Minh Tuyen, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Market Area, Dong Van Commune, Binh Lieu District, Quang Ninh Province, inaugurated in 2021, within the framework of the 6th Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange Program, the Vietnam - China Border Friendship Cultural House has become a common home for the people of Dong Van Commune, Binh Lieu District, Quang Ninh Province (Vietnam) and the people of Dong Trung Town, Fangcheng District, Guangxi Province (China).
Since its inauguration, people of the Tay, Dao, and Kinh ethnic groups in the border area of Dong Van commune have come to the Vietnam-China Border Friendship Cultural House to meet, exchange, and receive new information from both sides of the border... In this border area, everyone is proud to have a common cultural house and a common sports field.
According to the Border Guard Commander, up to now, there have been 6 border friendship cultural houses built along the Vietnam - China border, including: Vietnam - China border friendship cultural house in Po To village (Huoi Luong commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province); Vietnam - China border friendship cultural house in Na Loc 3 village (Ban Lau commune, Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province); Vietnam - China border friendship cultural house in Chi Ma village (Yen Khoai commune, Loc Binh district, Lang Son province); Ta Lung friendship cultural center, Phuc Hoa district, Cao Bang province; Vietnam - China friendship cultural house (Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district, Quang Ninh province), Vietnam - China friendship cultural house in Ban Phiet commune, Bao Thang district, Lao Cai province.
The construction of friendship cultural houses is one of the activities of the Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange program organized since 2014 with the aim of strengthening relations between the two Parties, governments and peoples of the two countries.
Up to now, Vietnam and China have successfully coordinated to organize 8 Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchanges. The programs over the years have contributed to enriching, developing and perfecting the forms and mechanisms of cooperation that the Ministry of Defense and border protection forces of the two countries have been implementing.
In addition, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has supported and built 2 projects to serve local economic development; 1 civil road project... with a total cost of more than 100 billion VND, contributing to improving people's lives and developing the economy and society in the border area; creating a widespread influence on the friendship and solidarity between the people and border protection forces of the two countries, on the good relationship between Vietnam and China, on the peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developing Vietnam-China border.
Many initiatives and coordination models have been popularized and replicated; contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, ensuring national border security such as: The twinning model "Friendship Station - Border Guard Station, peaceful border"; "Friendship Station - Border Guard Station, harmonious border gate", up to now, 82 pairs of Border Guard Station - Border Guard Stations on both sides of the border have been twinning; advising local authorities to organize twinning of 67 pairs of residential clusters on both sides of the border; "Building a model border line"; "Solidarity patrol"; "Vietnam - China Border Guard Friendship Forest"; "Political work exchange"; "Coordination in law enforcement on the Vietnam - China land border"; "Friendship messenger"...

Create many new models
Major General Le Duc Thai, member of the Party Central Committee and Commander of the Border Guard, said that in the coming time, the border protection forces and border gates of the two countries will continue to implement key contents according to established cooperation mechanisms, strengthen coordination in law enforcement, border protection, border markers, and border gate management; consolidate trust, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in a practical, friendly, harmonious and sustainable manner. The border gate system will continue to be invested in, upgraded, and technology applied to improve the efficiency of border clearance.
At the same time, based on the specific situation and conditions, we will proactively carry out joint talks and patrols, promote joint counter-terrorism exercises, respond to non-traditional security challenges, provide cross-border medical assistance, and hold military sports events, and maintain the order and effectiveness of these activities.
In addition, the Border Guard Command continues to direct the Border Guard Commands of 7 northern border provinces to closely coordinate with border protection forces and border gates of neighboring countries to raise the scale, expand the content and form of implementing foreign relations models that have shown clear effectiveness in practice, such as: Models of "Building a model border", "Friendship messenger", "Solidarity patrol", "Model border gate"... and carry out political activities such as "The Party flag illuminates the border", "Vietnam - China friendship, heart to heart", "Planting friendship trees"... The positive impacts from these models have shown that the border protection forces and border gates of the two countries have become more closely connected and agreed to create activities to manage and protect the common border more effectively.
