Southeast Asia's steel industry goes green, reduces carbon emissions

DNO - On May 13, in Da Nang, the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) and the Southeast Asian Steel Association (SEAISI) held the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian Steel Conference & Exhibition 2024 with the theme "Survival and development in a carbon neutral world ".

Speaking at the opening session, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong expressed his excitement that VSA and SEAISI chose Da Nang as the venue for this series of events.

At the same time, highly appreciate the theme of this year's event series is "Survive and thrive in a carbon-neutral world" because steel is one of the three largest greenhouse gas emitting industries in the world.

With its important role in the global economy , the steel industry needs to find methods and technical solutions to survive and thrive in a carbon-neutral world.

The adoption of new, innovative technical advances in the steel industry will also play an important role in adapting to climate change, keeping global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The SEAISI conference and exhibition series will be a forum to provide, exchange multi-dimensional information and update and share information on policies and laws of Vietnam, the region and the world to help steel enterprises produce, trade and invest in development in accordance with the Green Growth Strategy of the country and the world.

The theme of this year's Southeast Asia Steel Conference and Exhibition series is not only limited to the interest of the Vietnamese and regional steel industry, but also the deep interest of Da Nang in the process of building and developing its green city.

Da Nang takes strong action on environmental protection for sustainable development and has been striving to become a green, smart city.

The city is constantly taking drastic measures to reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable energy sources to protect the environment.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong requested that State management agencies and local authorities pay attention to creating favorable conditions for VSA and the steel production business community to have sufficient conditions to carry out green transformation, contributing to the implementation of national goals on environment and climate.

VSA Chairman Nghiem Xuan Da informed that the series of SEAISI conferences and exhibitions taking place in Da Nang from May 13 to 16, 2024 with the participation of more than 500 delegates from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is an opportunity for steel manufacturers from ASEAN countries and around the world to exchange the latest research on technology and future development orientations for the steel industry.

In the current global greening trend, national efforts to achieve “Net Zero” emissions and international cooperation are bringing about major transformations in steel-using industries. These transformations will generate demand for green steel.

To meet this demand, the steel industry must rapidly transform by applying the latest metallurgical technologies to reduce carbon emissions. At the same time, applying advances in information technology for digital transformation, applying artificial intelligence to smart factories to optimize production and reduce emissions...
