Demand comes with quality

There is only 1 day left until the end of the registration period for university admission in 2024, but Nguyen My (from Ha Tinh) still does not know which major to choose to make her first choice.

My shared: "I like the banking and finance industry but I'm afraid that jobs will be saturated in the future. Many people say that this industry has an excess of human resources, and that technology and artificial intelligence will replace humans. Therefore, I'm afraid that I won't be able to find a job after graduating. While the marketing industry is "hot", I don't really like it."

This is also a concern of many candidates and parents in the context of an increasingly volatile economy.

Sharing about this issue, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tien Hoang, a training expert in the field of finance and banking, emphasized that students and parents can rest assured about career opportunities in the finance and banking industry.

He explained: "The flow of money in the economy is like the flow of blood in the human body. Therefore, all parties must make the flow of money always stable and develop. Therefore, job opportunities in the banking and finance industry are always abundant."

Associate Professor Hoang believes that it is important that students in this field must practice comprehensive skills and accumulate knowledge professionally so that when they graduate, employers will seek them out and trust them to hire them.

"When you have knowledge and skills, you don't have to worry about artificial intelligence (AI) causing you to lose your job," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tien Hoang emphasized.

Sharing the same view, MSc. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Deputy Director of the Center for Admissions and Business Relations, University of Finance - Marketing, shared that the human resource demand of businesses in this field is still high.

Every year, the University of Finance and Marketing still receives connections from many banks and businesses in training and recruiting students.

Every year, businesses offer a lot of content to encourage students to participate in graduation internships, recruitment days...

"Enterprises in the banking and finance sector are still making many recruitment demands, but the requirements are becoming more and more stringent. Recruiting units need high-quality human resources with solid knowledge, skills, and technology to be able to apply in the industry.

Enterprises also encourage educational institutions to train students who can work immediately without needing retraining," Ms. Kim Phung emphasized.

Besides the banking and finance industry, Ms. Phung also pointed out that the trend of interdisciplinary training in financial technology is receiving more attention.

The deputy head of the admissions department revealed that in the early admission methods, the number of candidates registering for finance majors has not decreased, still guaranteed as every year.

Practical student training

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hao, Director of Agribank, Branch 3, HCMC, said that banking units are very interested in and support training facilities for students to learn and practice right during their university studies.

Some universities have built banking and securities simulation centers for students to practice and experience the operations of a real bank, working as professional employees.

To help students have career opportunities, since 2019, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City has cooperated with businesses to launch a 4.0 banking practice room. This simulates a real working environment, providing students with useful experiences.

Here, students will be guided by lecturers and practice the necessary skills of a real bank employee, thereby having an overview of the work they will do in the future.

Van Lang University recently inaugurated a banking and securities practice center.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, Principal of Van Lang University, emphasized that businesses will prioritize recruiting students with experience, who can start working immediately without spending time on apprenticeship.

"Students experience banking processes from transaction processing to risk analysis, practicing problem-solving and teamwork skills in realistic simulation situations.

This not only improves students' knowledge and practical skills but also creates confidence before entering the labor market after graduation," Ms. My Dieu emphasized.

The principal said that major changes in technology, applications and technology trends will have a significant impact on human resource needs. Therefore, the story of higher education institutions is how to respond to new special requirements compared to the previous basic requirements.

She pointed out that it is the ability to apply technology and adapt to constant change. Students need to understand that they will be able to do things that machines cannot replace.

To do that, students need an environment to regularly practice, experiment, gain experience, and apply knowledge into practice.
