On December 29, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to review the implementation of the 2023 plan; deploy tasks and solutions for 2024 in the Agriculture and Rural Development sector.
Attending and directing the conference were comrades: Hoang Nghia Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Van De - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Meet and exceed key targets
The report presented at the conference showed that: Although facing many difficulties in weather, natural disasters, epidemics, and agricultural material prices, with the attention of superiors, the consensus and efforts of the industry, along with millions of farmers and the business community, the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has completed and exceeded the assigned plan targets, contributing significantly to promoting growth and successfully implementing the province's planning tasks, ensuring social security and improving the lives of rural residents.

The targets on agriculture and rural development were basically completed and exceeded the assigned plan, and the economic structure within the sector shifted in the right direction.
All production crops in 2023 will be bumper, with productivity and output of many crops and vegetables increasing sharply; timber and aquatic product output will increase significantly. The four basic targets for agriculture and rural development will all be completed and exceeded the plan: The growth rate of total agricultural, forestry and fishery products (GRDP) is estimated at VND 41,559 billion, up 4.54% over the same period last year.

The number of communes meeting new rural standards, advanced new rural standards, model new rural standards and districts meeting new rural standards all met or exceeded the plan; by December 31, 2023, an estimated 319/411 communes met new rural standards; 88/319 communes met advanced new rural standards; 12/319 communes met model new rural standards; 10 district-level units completed their tasks and met new rural standards. The percentage of rural population using hygienic water for daily life reached 88%; the forest coverage rate reached 58.36%.

The economic structure of the industry is shifting in the right direction. The total export value of agricultural, forestry, aquatic and seafood products in 2023 is estimated to reach over 562/399 million USD of the plan, reaching 140.78%.
The structure of crops, livestock, and seasons continues to change strongly, applying high technology; productivity, quality, and economic efficiency of many crops and livestock have increased significantly. The total area of annual crops in the province is estimated at 344,225 hectares; the total output of grain crops for the whole year is estimated at 1,220,983/Plan 1,200,000 tons, up 1.14% over the same period last year. Other crops such as cassava, raw sugarcane, tea, rubber, etc. have good productivity and output.

Livestock production has developed quite well in terms of total herd size and meat output. The total herd of cattle and poultry has increased compared to 2022. The total herd of buffalo and cows for the year is estimated at 801 thousand heads, the total herd of pigs is over 1 million heads.
Building modern agriculture that adapts to climate change.
In 2024, the agricultural sector sets the goal: Continue to strongly restructure the agricultural sector, rapidly shift to agricultural economy, digital economy, circular economy in agriculture and rural areas; build modern, high value-added, sustainable and efficient agriculture in a modern direction, adapting to climate change.
Accordingly, focus on developing processing, export, and post-harvest preservation industries; Strengthen irrigation, expand irrigated areas using high technology. Transform the structure of crops and livestock, increase productivity, quality, and value of livestock and agricultural products.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De acknowledged the results achieved by the agricultural sector in 2023, and emphasized: To successfully implement the 2024 plan, the agricultural and rural development sector needs to continue restructuring the agricultural sector towards modernity and sustainability.
“The sector must closely follow the assigned plans and targets, promptly develop plans and implementation options. In particular, pay attention to attracting businesses to invest in agriculture and rural areas; strengthen cooperation and production linkages according to the agricultural product value chain. At the same time, continue solutions and resources to complete infrastructure serving agriculture and rural areas. Continue to accelerate progress and improve the quality of new rural construction. Effectively implement policies to support the development of agricultural and rural production; Strengthen and improve the effectiveness of management of agricultural material quality and food hygiene and safety in production”, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee stated.

On this occasion, authorized by the Prime Minister, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to 2 individuals of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The Party Committee of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; 1 unit under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development was awarded the Emulation Flag of the Provincial People's Committee.
