Russia and China sign many new protocols, trade flows grow strongly

Following talks in Beijing on May 24 between Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang, the two sides signed a number of protocols related to phytosanitary measures for exports from Russia to China and requirements for grain.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on enhancing investment cooperation in the trade sector.

The two sides agreed to develop inter-regional trade, encourage businesses of the two countries to participate in exhibitions and fairs, and encourage businesses to organize joint events in many industries.

In another development, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the timing of Russian President Vladimir Putin's official visit to China is being discussed. According to Mr. Peskov, the work is being carried out within the framework of the Chinese President's invitation to visit Beijing.

During his visit to Moscow, Chinese President Xi Jinping said he had invited the Russian leader to visit China in 2023 at a convenient time.

China is scheduled to host the Belt and Road international forum this year.

China’s exports to Russia continued to rise by 153.1% in April 2023 compared to a year earlier. Russian energy shipments to China are expected to increase by 40% this year, as the two countries discuss supplying technological equipment to Moscow.
