Russia issues arrest warrant for US Senator over comments on Ukraine war

During his meeting last Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Mr Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina, said that “Russian soldiers are dying” and described US military assistance to Ukraine as “the best money we’ve ever spent”.

A short video clip released by the Ukrainian President's office with this statement and posted on social media has caused outrage in Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Sunday that “it is difficult to imagine anything more shameful than having such senators”.

Russia's Investigative Committee, the country's top criminal investigation agency, has opened a criminal investigation into Mr. Graham, and the Russian Interior Ministry has issued an arrest warrant for him.

Mr Graham is among more than 200 members of the US Congress whom Moscow banned from entering Russia last year.
