* VSU switches to defense , builds fortifications in Kupyansk: On October 8, the commander of the “Medved” detachment of the Bars-9 detachment of the Western Group of the Russian Armed Forces (VS RF) said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU) stopped counterattacking in Kupyansk and are preparing a defense plan for the city.

“Those high-rise buildings are Kupyansk-Uzlovaya, identified as the cathedral in the city and the main area. Their strength is exhausted, their summer counter-offensive is over, they are just preparing for defense,” he announced.

According to the official, the VSU is no longer attacking and there are no civilians in the area. Aerial reconnaissance can identify VSU observation posts located in residential buildings and take-off sites of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The VSU is trying to build fortifications, but most of them have been destroyed by aircraft, long-range artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. The Russian Air Force has also attacked the VSU stronghold and blown up an ammunition depot outside Kupyansk.

On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that in 24 hours, units of the Western Group of Forces in the direction of Kupyansk repelled nine counterattacks by the 32nd, 44th, 66th and 4th Motorized Tank Brigades of the VSU in Novoselivske, Makiivka in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) and Orlyanka in Kharkov. The leader of the Nordic country: “As long as the Ukrainian people are ready to fight for freedom, let us decide that conflict fatigue will not take place in our transatlantic community.”

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed: “This is not the time to withdraw from the international arena and retreat into internal disputes. This is not the time to isolate ourselves. This is not the time to remain silent or pretend that the situation on the continent does not affect global issues.” (Reuters)

* Israel calls for troops to re-enlist, affirms early “complete siege” of Gaza Strip: On October 9, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant ordered a “complete siege” of the Gaza Strip as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked the area. In a video statement, he stated: “We are completely besieging Gaza… No electricity, no food, no water, no gas. Everything is closed.”

The IDF announced that on the night of October 8, the air force and artillery attacked more than 500 targets of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement (PJF) in the Gaza Strip.

In related news, Brigadier General Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), said that the country has recalled 300,000 soldiers from the reserve force in the past 48 hours. Speaking at a quick press conference with reporters, Mr. Hagari stated: "We have completely controlled the residential areas, but there may still be many terrorists operating in this area."

According to the official, hundreds of Hamas militants were killed during the IDF siege. Regarding the news that Israel is calling on the US for military aid, he said: “We do not lack weapons. Everything is being delivered to the field.”

At the same time, Israeli intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the situation in southern Lebanon for attacks from the Shiite Hezbollah group. Speaking to the press after the session, US diplomat Robert Wood shared: "There are quite a few countries that criticize Hamas's actions, but clearly not all of them. You can find one of those countries without me naming them." According to diplomats, the UN Security Council is not considering issuing a joint statement, let alone a binding resolution related to this issue.

Meanwhile, countries led by Russia hope that the Security Council will pay greater attention to measures to resolve the current situation. Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said: "My message is to immediately stop the fighting and move towards a ceasefire, as well as to start meaningful negotiations." The diplomat also stressed: "The situation is partly the result of unresolved issues." (AFP)
