The above information was revealed by Mr. Rudenko in an interview with RIA Novosti news agency published on June 24, but there is currently very little detailed information about the content of the agreement.
In early June, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that negotiations on the deal had been temporarily suspended, while Iran said there was no disruption in drafting a new deal.
According to TASS news agency, in 2001, Russia and Iran signed a 20-year strategic agreement. This agreement was automatically extended for another five years in 2020, after which the two sides agreed to build a new treaty to replace the old document.
According to the text published on the Kremlin's website, the 2001 agreement calls for cooperation in the fields of security, energy (including the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the construction of nuclear power plants), industry and technology.
After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out in February 2022, Moscow and Tehran have strengthened bilateral ties in many areas such as investment, military and energy.
