Severe heat returns in the South

The highest temperature commonly ranges from 35 - 37 degrees Celsius. In particular, in Bien Hoa (Dong Nai), the temperature reached 37.8 degrees Celsius, and in So Sao ( Binh Duong ), it was 37.6 degrees Celsius. The lowest humidity ranged from 40 - 60%; Bien Hoa is also the place with the lowest humidity of only 20%.

It is forecasted that in the coming days, the heat will continue to increase in the Eastern region and some places in the Western region. The common temperature is from 35 - 37 degrees Celsius, some places will exceed 37 degrees Celsius.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced: El Nino has peaked and is weakening, but its impact will last for the next 3 months, with many places recording higher than normal temperatures.

Every month from June 2023 will set a new temperature record, with 2023 set to be the warmest year yet, according to WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo. El Nino contributed to the record temperatures, but heat-trapping greenhouse gases were the main culprit.

The rise in sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean is the basis for determining the El Nino phenomenon. However, this region is not alone, sea surface temperatures in other parts of the world have been continuously high and abnormal over the past 10 months.

WMO noted that although El Nino has decreased in intensity, this phenomenon usually has the greatest impact on global climate in the second year, 2024. Currently, over most of the oceans, sea surface temperatures remain above normal, affecting land temperatures in most areas over the next 3 months to remain high and rainfall to decrease.

Notably, in recent times, along with the prolonged heat wave, many places in the South have also experienced fire and explosion incidents. Therefore, in addition to paying attention to protecting health and avoiding prolonged exposure to heat, people need to pay attention to fire prevention in residential areas as well as forest fires.
