Met a Korean husband through matchmaking
Ms. My came to Ho Chi Minh City to work as an accountant and study part-time at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics. After a few unsuccessful relationships, Ms. My did not want to love anyone anymore and focused on work and studies. In January 2023, Ms. My went to see off a friend's husband back to Korea. This friend introduced Ms. My to a technology engineer working in Busan (Korea), Mr. Yeon Hong.
My's family lived happily in Korea before Yeon Hong had an accident.
The first time they met, My was impressed by his broad shoulders, which could protect her, and his calm and mature way of speaking. Yeon Hong is 14 years older than My, but he looks very young and well-matched. "Despite the age gap, he always tries to update new trends to get along with me and make me happier," My said.
Within a few months, My and Yeon Hong decided to get married and then move to Korea. Being a daughter-in-law in a foreign land made My worried, wondering if she would be treated well. However, contrary to My's fears, Yeon Hong loved his wife very much.
During her days in Korea, My lived happily with her understanding husband. He always listened to her and took good care of her. A year later, Jeong Min Ho, the son of Yeon Hong and My, was born.
The incident made My stronger to take care of her family.
“He created conditions for me to take care of the children wholeheartedly, while my husband took care of the finances. Every day before work, he called to ask if I had eaten yet, what I was doing, and when I got off work, he came straight home to me. On weekends, he took everyone out to eat so I didn’t have to cook,” My shared.
At the end of September 2023, after attending a party with colleagues, Yeon Hong returned home by subway. Yeon Hong slipped and fell at the train station and suffered a traumatic brain injury, requiring emergency treatment that night. “Before the accident, he called his wife to joke around. I was stunned when I heard the bad news,” said My.
Noble virtues of Vietnamese women
Ms. My said that after the emergency surgery, the doctor informed the family to prepare for the funeral because the possibility of recovery was almost zero. The whole family was devastated, but only Ms. My refused to accept it. "Only when I saw my husband's life ending before my eyes did I give up," Ms. My said.
That night, My stayed up until 10am the next morning, without eating or drinking. The family had planned to arrange Yeon Hong's funeral, but My convinced everyone to wait a little longer. A few days later, Yeon Hong showed signs of recovery, opening his eyes, moving a few fingers slightly, My seemed to burst into tears.
Ms. My takes care of her husband wholeheartedly.
“I cried every day in the hospital, but the worst feeling was when I returned to the empty, cold house. Because during the time I lived in Korea, he was my only support. I encouraged myself that if he couldn’t stand up, who would Min Ho rely on?” said My.
Ms. My is almost alone in taking care of her husband. Because her mother-in-law is old, Min Ho is studying, her brothers-in-law all have their own jobs... Meals become rushed, Ms. My often has to order food from outside. Ms. My said, there was a day when she had to get up to suck out phlegm for her husband. Ms. My took on everything from helping her husband go to physical therapy, to signing papers...
My always massaged her husband's hands and feet and took the opportunity to tell him stories at home. Just seeing her husband blink, showing understanding, made My extremely happy.
After constant efforts, Yeon Hong's health gradually recovered. The doctor diagnosed encouraging signs, as his hands were able to move, his eyes were more flexible and his cognition recovered.
Little Min Ho (10 years old) is still young but very understanding. After school, Min Ho actively studies and eats to help his mother feel less tired. Min Ho is also guided by My to wipe his father's face and massage his hands.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dung (59 years old), living in Lai Vung district, Dong Thap province, My's father, said: "My family was heartbroken when seeing my son-in-law had an accident. I feel very sorry for my son because now he has to work hard to take care of his husband and raise his children. However, husband and wife have more than just love, there is also duty. My's husband, my wife and my younger brother always support our daughter in wholeheartedly taking care of her seriously ill husband."
