Nguyen Anh Vu (18 years old) is a poor student in the coastal area of Quang Phu commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province.

Since childhood, Vu has lived with his elderly maternal grandparents. Despite the difficult family circumstances and many disadvantages, Vu has always been a good student and very studious.

To help Nguyen Anh Vu feel confident on his way to school, Roon Border Guard Station (Quang Binh Border Guard) adopted him at the unit.

The 5-year journey of "sowing green seeds" by the "foster fathers" wearing green military uniforms has been a great motivation, helping Vu realize his dream of being admitted to the Border Guard Academy.

Vu's proud achievement is the "sweet fruit" of love that the poor student from the coastal village expresses gratitude to his family and the "foster fathers" of Roon Border Post.

Talking to us, Major Nguyen Son Binh, Political Commissar of Roon Border Post, could not hide his pride and emotion when talking about Anh Vu - the unit's well-behaved and studious "adopted son".

Vu's family situation was extremely difficult. His parents separated, his father went to work far away, his mother remarried and lived elsewhere, Vu lived with his elderly and weak maternal grandparents. At that time, Vu's education was almost interrupted.

Sharing Vu's difficulties, in 2019, Roon Border Guard Station decided to adopt him to the unit to better care for, raise and educate him.

Major Nguyen Son Binh recalled: “When he first entered the station, Vu was a junior high school student, very small and skinny! The unit sent a military doctor to examine and treat Vu’s teeth, and assigned the Mass Mobilization Team and the Youth Union to send people to take care of him, tutor him, train him in living and sleeping habits, and encourage him to try hard in his studies. After 1 year of living in the unit, Vu gained 12kg and followed the military lifestyle very well.”

Since becoming the "adopted son" of Roon Border Post, Vu has also become a "child soldier" of the unit, gradually getting used to military life with its regular living, eating, sleeping, etc. regimes, according to regulations.

In the new environment, Anh Vu was not only cared for and educated but also received attention, protection and love from the "foster fathers" in the unit.

Nguyen Anh Vu took that as motivation for himself to constantly try, make efforts, overcome his inferiority complex, study hard and practice to not disappoint the trust of his "foster fathers" with green military uniforms. Vu's academic results also made remarkable progress, especially in his final years of high school, he achieved excellent results and was selected to be in the school's excellent student team.

During his time living and studying with the officers and soldiers of Roon Border Post, Nguyen Anh Vu came into contact with and felt the noble value of soldiers towards the Fatherland and the people, especially the silent contributions and sacrifices in performing the task of managing and protecting the homeland's borders of the "Border Guard foster fathers."

That has contributed to fostering love for the homeland, country, sense of responsibility for the young student in studying and orienting the right future for himself.

Nguyen Anh Vu shared: “When I first came to the Station, I was not used to the new environment so I was quite worried and shy. However, the officers here are very close, always following, encouraging and instructing me on many things, especially the officers are very attentive, creating favorable conditions for me in studying, taking care of me from my school bag, pens to school uniforms... I feel very lucky and proud to be the child of the 'Border Guard foster fathers'. I tell myself that I must always try to study hard, determined to realize my dream of becoming a Border Guard soldier, contributing my efforts with the 'foster fathers' to protect and build my homeland.”

In the loving and caring arms of the "Foster Border Guard Fathers" and with his own determination, Nguyen Anh Vu not only completed high school with high achievements, but also brought pride to his family, his hometown and the "foster fathers" of Roon Border Guard Station, as he was the first "son" of the Quang Binh Border Guard to be admitted to the Border Guard Academy - one of the leading schools in the entire army, training generations of border management and protection officers.

The news about a poor boy in the sand area of Quang Phu, Quang Trach district, who scored 25.4 points and successfully passed the Border Guard Academy is not only a joy for Vu, his family and the unit, but also a good news for the whole fishing village here.

Mrs. Le Thi Tam (Vu's grandmother) emotionally said: "When Vu ran home to tell me the news, I was so happy that I cried and felt very excited and proud of him. My family is grateful to the Party, the local government and especially the Border Guards who taught, loved and helped Vu to achieve the results he has today."

The leader of Roon Border Guard Station said that as one of the "Adopted Children of the Border Guard Station," Nguyen Anh Vu had been familiar with and adapted well to military life, so when he officially became a new student at the Border Guard Academy, Vu was very excited, happy and not too surprised when entering school in a new environment.

When studying and training in the military environment, Anh Vu will continue to mature, soon become a Border Guard soldier, following the generation of his fathers, preserving the tradition of management, firmly protecting the sovereignty and security of the borders and islands of the Fatherland.

To accompany and motivate Anh Vu on his new journey, the head of the Quang Binh Border Guard Command and representatives of units and localities presented many meaningful and practical gifts to support him before his first day of school.

Colonel Ngo Van Dung, Deputy Political Commissar of the Quang Binh Provincial Border Guard, said that implementing the policies of the Party, the State, and the Standing Committee of the Border Guard Party Committee on implementing the programs "Adopted Children of Border Guard Stations" and "Helping Children Go to School", the Standing Committee of the Provincial Border Guard Party Committee has directed units to organize and implement the programs seriously, closely, and effectively.

Over the past time, the units have implemented and done very well, creating all favorable conditions so that the children in the program can be well taken care of physically and mentally, go to school and achieve high results in studying and training.

In particular, this year, Nguyen Anh Vu, the adopted son of Roon Border Station, was admitted to the Border Guard Academy, which is a great achievement and joy for the officers, soldiers and units that have guided and raised the children to grow up and contribute to their homeland and the Fatherland. This will be a shining example for the children in the programs “Adopted Son of the Border Station” and “Helping Children Go to School” to learn and follow.

In the coming time, the Quang Binh Border Guard will focus on directing the effective implementation of this program, contributing to bringing meaning and spreading the humanistic values of the program, helping to fulfill the dreams of students in difficult circumstances to go to school.

The example of studiousness and efforts to overcome the circumstances of poor student Nguyen Anh Vu is the "sweet fruit" sown from the "green shoots" of love and responsibility of Border Guard soldiers, for students and people in difficult circumstances in border and island areas.

Through the program “Adopted Children of Border Guard Stations,” the “fathers in green uniforms” have become a trustworthy and solid support for poor students on the border to go to school with peace of mind, conquer literacy and later become useful citizens./.

For the children, the officers and soldiers of the border guard station are both fathers and teachers, role models, guiding them in their studies and providing them with basic life skills.
