After many roles ranging from comedy to emotional, Do Duy Nam returns to the small screen with the role of a perverted criminal in the film Black Drug. Appearing at the film's press conference on the afternoon of August 22, Do Duy Nam attracted attention with his extremely "cool" hair.
The actor said that 4 years ago, when he played the role of Thinh "horse" in Maze , the movie had just finished airing the scene where Thinh smashed the TV, his mother ran into the room, tears in her eyes, saying: "Nam, if you were like this, I would probably die."
"This time with the movie Black Medicine , I'll probably have to give my mother... heart medication and sedatives when watching her son play such an overwhelming role," Do Duy Nam humorously said.
The hair style of European and American rappers is the highlight of Do Duy Nam's appearance in the new film. He revealed that this was his idea. Although the hairdresser said that this hairstyle would cause pain and affect his acting, Do Duy Nam was still determined to do it.
The actor spent 8 hours a day doing his hair, maintaining it for 3 months. At first, Do Duy Nam's daughter cried because she didn't recognize him. He said: "Luckily, the Rap Viet show was hot at that time, so I did some moves like the rappers. At first, the kids were a bit scared, but it only took a few days for them to get used to their dad's new look."
Although he sacrificed his appearance, Do Duy Nam was very satisfied with his new role. The character Dat - a member of the Cityboy group in Black Medicine - as well as the film's script in general brought him excitement. "I am really serious about this role. It's been a long time since I read a script that made me exclaim and excited for each scene like that," he said.
Unlike Do Duy Nam's elaborate hairstyle, actor Hoang Anh Vu shaved his head, breaking away from the image of the young masters and princes of the past. The actor himself proposed this look to the director because he wanted to clearly portray the image of a villain in the film.
"I have played many good, positive roles. This time, trying a villain role, I think I have to have a different look for the character," Hoang Anh Vu shared about the role of Cuong - another member of the Cityboy group.
Meanwhile, Trinh Quoc Vuong - the leader of the Cityboy gang - is played by Tuan Anh. Previously, the actor was noticed for his role as Bat in Life is Still Beautiful. Vuong's co-leader is Long, played by Binh An. He transformed into a mischievous, scheming image with scenes of debauchery in the film.
Black Medicine is also the project that marks the first time Huynh Anh plays a police officer on the small screen. He plays Tuan - a smart, brave police officer but has a sad past when he witnessed his mother being murdered.
After that shock, Tuan lost all his memories of his childhood. Tuan's mother's case also left a mark on the mind of Tuyen (Bao Anh) - a young police officer. 20 years after the case, Tuan became the Deputy Captain of the Criminal Police Team, with Tuyen as Captain.
Huynh Anh said that Tuan is a new challenge for him. Familiar to the audience with the character of a playboy, Huynh Anh's return in a different role has many viewers looking forward to it.
Besides Huynh Anh, actress Luong Thanh also wore the police uniform for the first time. She was also a rare actress to appear alongside the male cast at the film's premiere.
Black Drug is part of the Criminal Police series. The film is directed by Pham Gia Phuong and Tran Trong Khoi - a duo who have been successful with films in the investigative genre such as Maze, Mirror Mask...
The crew said it took them 2 years to make the film, including 1 and a half years of writing the script. Black Drug will be like many other crime-themed films, attracting audiences with its deep story and unpredictable details.
Speaking at the film premiere, director Nguyen Khai Anh - Deputy Director of VFC - said: "After 4 years, VFC has just released a film about criminal police. This is a time for us to look back at ourselves, investing in both content and script to aim for the best quality.
Therefore, from the costumes, setting and content of Black Pharma, everything is carefully invested, promising to bring many surprises to the audience."
Black Pharma is expected to air at 9:40 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on VTV3, starting from September 4.
