On the afternoon of October 23, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of Nghe An Department of Education and Training - said that the department had requested the Department of Education and Training of Nam Dan district to coordinate with the authorities to verify the content of the case of a male student being forced to eat dirt and smoke, causing a stir on social networks.

Previously, a 2-minute video clip was circulated on social media, recording a scene where a 9th grade male student at Anh Xuan Secondary School, Nam Dan District, was forced by two friends to sit on a patch of grass by the roadside and scoop up dirt to put in his mouth. After eating the first handful of dirt, the male student was forced to continue smoking.

Initial verification results show that the incident occurred in a field area in Nam Anh commune, after a meeting organized by the Nam Anh commune Youth Union.

The cause was a previous conflict between Nguyen Van Th. (9E grade student at Anh Xuan Secondary School) and his classmate Vo Hai D. (9C grade student).

On the evening of October 19, when meeting D., Th. and his friend Pham Thien Nh. (11th grade student at Mai Hac De High School, Nam Dan district) forced D. to eat dirt and smoke two cigarettes.

While N. was forcing and threatening, Th. recorded a video and then sent it to his classmates.

The Department of Education and Training of Nam Dan district has requested the school to coordinate with local authorities and police forces to investigate and clarify the incident.

Representatives of the board of directors of Anh Xuan Secondary School also visited the family to encourage and visit the male student in the video clip.
