TPO - Tran Minh Duc, an 11th grade English 1 student at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, has just received a 9.0 IELTS result, in which all three skills of Listening, Reading, Speaking are 9.0; Writing skill is 8.0.

Thanks to building an early English foundation, Tran Minh Duc achieved 9.0 IELTS on his first attempt, including perfect scores in all 3 skills.

A male student of English 1 class at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted shared that he was very happy and did not expect to achieve such results. He did not practice IELTS too much because he already had a foundation in grammar and vocabulary. However, he still registered to study at a center to improve his skills and get familiar with the test structure.

With the advantage of studying English at a prestigious school, Minh Duc said that this is a certificate that most English majors want to conquer. The secret to helping him achieve 9.0 IELTS is not too sophisticated but requires perseverance such as reading and watching everything in English to expand his vocabulary, sentence structures and learn how to apply them fluently.

In the Listening skill, the male student assessed that this part is not too complicated and is the easiest to get points. Therefore, before starting the listening test, Duc often underlines the keywords in the test to grasp the overall picture and what needs to be paid attention to so as not to miss any content during the test.

To speak and write well, Duc believes that it is necessary to be exposed to a lot of English documents and there are many ways to "absorb " English such as being able to turn on podcasts to listen to the content, watch videos or favorite movies. Thus, the use of words and writing style will gradually become more fluent and natural.

In the Reading skill, the male student believes that candidates must have a firm grasp of vocabulary and grammar, because if one of the two is missing, they will not be able to fully understand the reading passage. When doing the test, Duc often underlines evidence to choose the appropriate answer.

For Speaking, the topic Duc received was to talk about a time he learned something from an online video. This is his favorite field so he talked about the reason for watching the video, how interesting the content of the video was and why he loved the video.

And Duc thinks that what you say does not need to be profound, it is quite simple, but you should pay attention to diversifying sentence structures and words to impress the judges. The expression also needs to be clear, coherent, and uninterrupted.

Ms. Vu Thu Trang, Minh Duc's mother, said that Duc loves nature and is especially passionate about plants. Sharing the secret to helping her child learn English well, she said that families should have a plan for their children to study systematically from an early age.

Since he was little, Duc loved and often imitated some English vocabulary. At that time, his mother often showed him some videos on foreign channels, both looking at the pictures and listening to the correct pronunciation.

Or when the child was young, he read a lot of specialized English documents about plants. This is also one of the reasons why German vocabulary is very good and is absorbed daily.

In addition, she also regularly buys books and stories in English for her son to read. Thanks to that, Trang discovered that Duc has the ability to read very quickly. In primary school, Duc started to enjoy watching videos, researching and referring to foreign documents related to plants and trees.

Love Biology and dream of studying abroad

Amser admits that English was not the field he wanted to pursue at first. While studying in the dual-degree class of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, with his love for the natural world, Duc decided to try to join the Biology team but failed.

Duc transferred to study at the England team. In grade 9, Minh Duc participated in the competition and won first prize in the city's excellent student competition in English. After that, he was admitted to grade 10 of the English major at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted with the highest score in the specialized subject.

When he was admitted to the 10th grade of the English major at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Duc still took the Biology exam. Wanting to try his luck again, Duc asked his teachers to let him study with the Biology team of the school.

However, according to the regulations for the excellent student exam, students can only choose subjects from the subjects they have studied in the general education program. Since the English specialized class does not offer this elective subject, he had to return to English. Duc excelled in being selected for the city's team to participate in the national excellent student exam on December 25.

After achieving 9.0 IELTS, Duc said he will focus on preparing well for the upcoming national excellent student exam, spending time doing review questions to improve his level and skills but not spending too much time.

Knowing how to arrange time reasonably, even though he is about to compete for the national team, Duc thinks that he still has a lot of time to participate in club activities at school. He is currently the head of the finance department of a club at school and spends a lot of time on this job.

In addition, I also go to the gym, practice the piano, learn another foreign language like Japanese, read books, play with and take care of cats, plant trees, etc.

“I am studying Japanese and I really love this foreign language, and the results are also very good. As for English now, for me, it is not just about learning English anymore, but I use English as an effective tool to access the horizons of specialized knowledge that I love. English knowledge and skills just come naturally,” Duc shared.

With plans to apply to study in the US, the male student plans to take the SAT. The field Minh Duc wants to pursue at university is related to Biology.
