A difficult childhood and the dream of reaching for a star
Before becoming a famous singer admired by many generations of audiences, few people knew that Dan Truong had a past of struggling with hard manual labor.
In particular, until now, fans still call Dan Truong "Anh Bo" - an intimate name since childhood - and rarely call him by his real name, which feels very affectionate and familiar.
"Bo is my nickname since I was little, when I played in the neighborhood. My whole family also called me Bo, the name Dan Truong only used when I was in school. I asked my parents why they called me Bo. They said I was born in 1976, when society was still very poor, everyone had to eat rice mixed with bo bo seeds. That's why my parents called me Bo to remember that difficult time," the male singer recounted.
The singer is the eldest and only son in a family of three younger sisters. Dan Truong’s parents used to be workers at a frozen seafood factory. However, due to difficult economic conditions, his family had to change to many different jobs.
When he was young, Dan Truong helped his parents earn money by making handmade ballpoint pens. In addition, he also helped his mother sell bread on a small cart at the beginning of the alley near their house. Also during the years when no one knew about him, Dan Truong showed his passion for art.
In his free evenings, he joined a dance and singing club near where he lived. In 1996, Dan Truong was encouraged by his friends to participate in a singing contest organized by the District 10 Cultural House, Ho Chi Minh City. After winning the prize, Dan Truong began singing at small venues and in remote provinces.
In 1997, he cooperated with manager Hoang Tuan and became an exclusive singer of HT Production Singer Training Company.
At first, Hoang Tuan himself did not expect that the shy boy named Pham would suddenly become one of the successful and enduring music stars with the showbiz halo like today.

Dan Truong is also the first singer in Vietnam to buy exclusive rights to songs to build a professional image and style. At the same time, he is one of the singers with the highest record sales, having released more than 60 albums, reaching sales of about 2 million records.

Regarding his personal life, Dan Truong lives a rather private life. In 2013, he married a businesswoman 10 years younger and a Vietnamese American named Trinh Thuy Tien. The two had a lovely son together before deciding to divorce in July 2021. When asked about the reason for their separation, Thuy Tien said that the two could not overcome the differences in thinking and life when they often lived apart.
After that, Dan Truong bought a new house in the US and lived alone. He also often met Thuy Tien and together they took care of their son. Many times the male singer shared moments of reunion with his son Thien Tu and his ex-wife.
Not long ago, when Dan Truong returned to Vietnam to pursue his artistic career, the businesswoman supported him wholeheartedly and brought her son back to the country with him. The three of them had happy trips and vacations.

"I choose to be single. I sing continuously and don't have time for dating. A relationship that wants to develop requires serious investment, always accompanying and sharing everything with each other. Many people want to be with me, but I hesitate because I know it won't go anywhere, so I'm afraid of love. There are times when I think about getting to know someone and quickly give up the idea," the male singer confided.
Despite having nearly 30 years of professional artistic activities in the domestic entertainment industry, at the age of U50, Dan Truong still maintains his passion for singing by regularly releasing music products.
Currently, Dan Truong still "flies" from domestic to international shows and spends a lot of time as a judge and coach for music competitions.
A successful artistic career has helped Dan Truong own an admirable fortune. He currently has houses in both Vietnam and abroad. In the US, the male singer is the owner of a villa of about 290 square meters, worth about 450 thousand USD (about 11 billion VND).
