US ignores aid to Ukraine, Kiev may have to wait until 2024

According to Bloomberg , it will not be until next month that the administration of US President Joe Biden considers an additional military aid package for Ukraine. The fact that the new budget package signed by Mr. Biden on November 17 does not include aid for Kiev partly reflects this.

New US aid to Ukraine is at risk of being delayed until mid-December or longer, raising further doubts about the Biden administration’s ability to maintain the arms supplies promised to the Ukrainian government.

Bloomberg quoted a Pentagon spokesman as saying that Washington began to limit the flow of military aid to Kiev due to lack of resources.

Under pressure from Republicans, the US Congress may have to wait until 2024 to consider a new aid package for Ukraine. Even US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby warned that aid resources for Ukraine have reached their limit.

“The conflict is escalating and our ability to continue to support Ukraine is reaching its limits,” Mr. John Kirby emphasized.

Bloomberg 's report comes after a potential US government shutdown was averted at the last minute on November 16 (local time), when President Joe Biden signed a temporary spending bill into law before the deadline of 12:00 a.m. on November 17.

Michael Maloof, a former senior Pentagon security policy analyst, told Sputnik that the supplemental budget package does not include aid requests for Ukraine and Israel. This means that these countries will not receive additional aid from the US anytime soon.

Asked how Ukraine could find money to replace US assistance, Mr. Maloof said Kiev should learn to use its existing budget sparingly.

Earlier this month, Mr. Kirby said the United States had spent nearly 96% of the money allocated to the Kiev government since the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

“We have used about 96 percent of the aid program and more than 90 percent of the additional security assistance funds for Ukraine,” Kirby said.

Western countries have been providing military and economic aid to Ukraine since Russia began its special operation, with the United States being the main sponsor. Russia has repeatedly stated that this will only escalate and prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
