At a press conference on October 17, Admiral Aquilino commented on the arms transfer following US revelations that North Korea recently shipped more than 1,000 containers of military equipment and ammunition to Russia for use in its conflict with Ukraine.
“North Korea and Russia with the arms transfers and the capabilities that you have seen in the media are also a concern... We are watching very closely,” Mr. Aquilino said.
Earlier in the day, US Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim called the relationship between North Korea and Russia “troubling.” His statement came after the White House accused Pyongyang of sending a shipment of weapons to Moscow.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts in Jakarta, Indonesia, Sung Kim said Washington will continue to step up efforts to protect its allies.
Immediately after the US announced the above information, also on October 17, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia rejected Western accusations that Pyongyang was supplying weapons to Moscow.
The White House said on October 13 that North Korea had provided Russia with a shipment of weapons, calling it a worrying development in the expanding military relationship between Moscow and Pyongyang.
