'To dream of the World Cup, U23 Vietnam must conquer the U23 Asia qualifiers'

" If we want Vietnamese football to realize its World Cup dream, the U23 Vietnam team must play well at the 2024 AFC U23 Championship, and the first goal to conquer is the AFC U23 qualifiers right at home. If we cannot demonstrate our ability right from the youth football level, the journey towards the World Cup will be difficult, " Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan told U23 Vietnam in a meeting on the afternoon of September 5.

During the meeting, on behalf of the VFF Standing Committee, the VFF President encouraged the Vietnam U23 team ahead of the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers. He congratulated the players on completing the Vietnam professional football season and emphasized that the players on Coach Troussier's final list were those in the best form, receiving trust for the upcoming important tournament.

On the same morning, Coach Troussier announced the list of 23 players. The names retained were mostly those who participated in the 32nd SEA Games and some of them won the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan believes that U23 Vietnam will qualify for the final round.

" Once you have put on the Vietnamese national team's jersey, you should unite your efforts for the pride of the Fatherland. If you can do that, you will improve your self-worth as well as have the conditions to contribute to the national team in the future. Play with focus and make the most of the opportunities ," the VFF President encouraged.

Vietnam U23 is in Group C of the 2023 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers. Coach Troussier and his team will meet Guam U23 (September 6), Yemen U23 (September 9) and Singapore U23 (September 12). The top team will advance. The second-placed team will compare their goal difference with the second-placed teams in the other 10 groups to find the four teams that will advance to the next round.

The 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers also serve as 2024 Olympic qualifiers. The top three teams will qualify for the Olympics; the loser of the third-place match will play a play-off against another team in Africa.
