According to Mr. Pham Van Tao (Vinh Thanh commune, Tan Hung district), this year, the amount of snails is more than previous years. Taking advantage of the time to catch snails, on average each night, his family has an income of 400,000 - 500,000 VND, with some successful meals earning 700,000 - 800,000 VND.

Every day, dozens of tons of snails are caught by people and sold to traders.

The income from catching golden apple snails during the flood season is quite good, so many people participate in catching snails. According to the reporter's records, in low-lying communes such as Vinh Thuan, Tuyen Binh Tay, Vinh Hung district; Vinh Thanh, Vinh Loi, Vinh Dai, Vinh Chau B communes, Tan Hung district, there are more than 100 households participating in catching snails at this time. People here said that they mainly catch snails at night, because at night the weather is cool, the snails float to the surface of the water, making them easier to catch.

Currently, Mr. Huynh Van Phuong buys about 50 - 60 tons of golden apple snails every day.

According to Mr. Huynh Van Phuong (Vinh Thanh commune, Tan Hung district), a trader who buys golden apple snails, every year, when the flood season begins (from July to November of the lunar calendar), golden apple snails are caught by households and collected by households and brought to the collection point. After being processed and classified, the snails are loaded onto trucks and transported to Phu Yen province to be sold to households raising shrimp and fish.

On average, Mr. Phuong buys about 50 - 60 tons of snails (with shells) every day, at prices ranging from 1,000 - 1,7000 VND/kg (depending on the time). "Buying golden apple snails during the flood season not only creates additional income for poor households but also creates conditions for about 30 local workers to have additional income (about 500,000 VND) per day from carrying snails for hire," said Mr. Phuong.

Golden apple snails are pre-processed and sold to shrimp and fish farmers.

Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Hung district - Pham Thanh Hung informed: "Although the work of catching snails at night is hard, it brings significant income to the people. This work also has an important meaning in contributing to reducing the number of golden apple snails that harm crops."

Golden apple snails have a fast growth and reproduction rate. Every year, golden apple snails damage rice, farmers have to spend a lot of money on spraying snail killers. By participating in catching golden apple snails, people have contributed to limiting the damage to crops caused by snails.
