"Golden rain" cools down, saves rice
After many days of intense heat, rain has begun to fall in the North Central region. The “golden rain” has broken the heat, cooled down the area, and saved the summer-autumn rice crop that was at risk of burning.
According to SGGP reporters in some communes of Dong Son, Quang Xuong, Trieu Son, Thieu Hoa, Yen Dinh districts (Thanh Hoa), most localities have just finished planting and sowing the summer-autumn rice crop. However, due to prolonged heat and scarcity of irrigation water, many fields are cracked and some are dry and burnt. Thanks to heavy rains lasting from June 23 to 24, many rice fields have been saved and are being revived.
Meanwhile, according to the North Central Hydrometeorological Station, from the night of June 23 to the morning of June 24, the region began to have scattered rain, including some places with heavy rain such as Chau Cuong (Quy Hop, Nghe An) with a measured rainfall of 99mm. It is forecasted that from the evening of June 24 to the morning of June 26, the North Central region will have moderate rain, heavy rain, some places with very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 20-50mm, some places over 100mm. Specifically, in Thanh Hoa province, there will be rainfall of 20-50mm, some places over 100mm; in Nghe An province 20-40mm, some places over 80mm; in Ha Tinh province 20-40mm, some places over 60mm.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, not only the North but also the Central Highlands and the South have experienced widespread heavy rain. Updated from 7am to the afternoon of June 24, the rainfall measured at stations is relatively large, such as: Suoi Giang (Yen Bai) 116mm, Tri Phu (Tuyen Quang) 77mm, Yen Thuong (Bac Kan) 64mm, Kim Binh (Hoa Binh) 166mm... The meteorological agency continuously issued bulletins warning of the risk of landslides and flash floods in the provinces of Lang Son, Son La, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa... and warning of floods on rivers in the North.
However, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of June 24 to the morning of June 26, the epicenter of heavy rain and strong winds in the North will be. Meteorological experts say that this long period of rain and wind will help the North and Central regions quickly become cool and comfortable again, but in areas with localized heavy rain, the risk of landslides, flooding, and even flash floods is very high in the context of the La Nina phenomenon that is becoming increasingly evident, with the nature of heavy rain and heavy floods.
To cope with this heavy rain, from noon on June 24, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control issued an official dispatch to the command committees in the provinces and cities in the North and North Central regions, requesting timely guidance for people to proactively prevent and minimize damage.
Mekong Delta: Rice fields fall, dragon fruit at risk of drowning
In recent days, heavy rains have occurred over a large area in the Mekong Delta, accompanied by thunderstorms, causing damage to many areas of summer-autumn rice that are about to be harvested.
Hau Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho City... are the localities with the most damaged rice areas. In Long Ho district (Vinh Long) alone, about 1,700 hectares of summer-autumn rice have fallen over. Fallen rice will significantly reduce productivity and cause difficulties for farmers in harvesting. Localities in the region are mobilizing farmers to promptly drain water as well as using measures to raise rice to reduce damage, mobilizing military forces to support farmers...
In Long An, on June 24, according to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Truyen, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Long An province, heavy rains in recent days have caused many people's fruit gardens to be deeply flooded. In Chau Thanh district (Long An), many dragon fruit gardens were flooded up to 0.5m deep, and garden owners were struggling to find many ways to drain the water, reducing the area of dragon fruit trees that had died from waterlogging. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc (living in Chau Thanh district) said that the heavy rain lasted for 3-4 days, his family tried many ways but the water could not drain in time, more than 1 hectare of dragon fruit that was bearing fruit was at risk of being cut down because the roots of many dragon fruit trees were rotten.
Similarly, in Cho Gao district (Tien Giang), hundreds of dragon fruit gardens are also at risk of drowning due to flooding for many days. People are trying to pump out water to save the dragon fruit gardens that are about to be harvested.
In Kien Giang, heavy rain and thunderstorms in recent days have collapsed and damaged 11 houses and sunk 4 fishing boats.
