Italy coach Jose Mourinho has revealed details of an upcoming documentary about his coaching career on Netflix, including turning down a lucrative contract to manage Roma in the summer of 2021.

After Roma beat Cremonese 2-1 in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup on January 3, Mourinho announced a new Netflix documentary. In it, the Portuguese coach admitted that the film contains scenes that will make viewers think he is "stupid".

"I'll tell you some information about the Netflix film about me. It's a documentary about my career and it starts on January 4," Mourinho said. "There will be stories that will only be in this documentary. At that time, I had not signed a contract with Roma, but I promised to coach the club. Another team came and wanted me to break the agreement with Roma, which was not signed yet. And I said no. When the documentary comes out, people will say I'm stupid."

Mourinho also revealed that his working style is based on trust between him and the Roma leadership. "When the Portuguese team approached, I immediately told the Roma president. When the Saudi Arabian club approached, I also immediately told the Roma president," the Portuguese coach expressed. "That's why I don't think they talk to other coaches behind my back."

Mourinho agreed to do the documentary before becoming Roma coach in the summer of 2021. This means that the "Special One" allowed the cameramen to capture scenes both in and out of his football life over the past three years. The content of the film has not been revealed, but it is likely to revolve around Mourinho's illustrious 24-year coaching career.

Mourinho made his name at Porto in 2002, winning every domestic trophy with the Portuguese club and two European Cups: the 2003 UEFA Cup and the 2004 Champions League. The Special One then transformed Chelsea into a powerhouse, winning three Premier League titles, three League Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield. He then moved to Inter, where he made history by helping the club win the treble of Serie A, the Italian Cup and the Champions League in the 2009-10 season.

In Spain, Mourinho and Real collected all three domestic titles, including La Liga, the King's Cup and the Spanish Super Cup. After leaving Chelsea in his second term, the Portuguese coach led Man Utd and won three titles including the Europa League, the League Cup and the English Super Cup.

Mourinho only went empty-handed in just over a year leading Tottenham, before joining Roma in the summer of 2021 on a contract until the end of the 2023-2024 season. The 60-year-old coach helped Roma win the 2021-2022 Conference League, the maroon team's first title in European competition, reach the Europa League final last season, but lost 1-4 to Sevilla in a penalty shootout and twice finished sixth in Serie A.
