Recorded on July 21, vegetable prices at traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City are slightly increasing compared to early July. Lettuce is priced at 50,000-60,000 VND/kg (up 5,000-10,000 VND), water spinach is priced at 30,000-40,000 VND/bunch, tomatoes are 30,000-40,000 VND/kg (up 10,000 VND/kg)... Green onions and other spices also increased by 2,000-3,000 VND/kg.
“The prices of some leafy vegetables have increased slightly, the quality of the vegetables has also decreased, many are damaged, so I have imported less. Because the southern provinces have had a lot of rain recently, it has affected the vegetable growing of some gardeners,” said Ms. Bich Hoa, a trader at Nguyen Tri Phuong market (District 5).
At the three wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City, the amount of vegetables and fruits coming to the market fluctuated slightly, but did not affect the prices and supply to the people much. In particular, the prices of many types of vegetables from Da Lat increased sharply compared to the beginning of the year, even doubling or tripling the prices of some types such as lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, etc.
Ms. Tran Thi Duyen - a vegetable trader at Thu Duc wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City - said: "Due to the continuous rainy weather, the productivity of most vegetables has decreased by 50-70%. Therefore, the import price from gardeners also tends to increase."
Meanwhile, at supermarkets, prices of goods are quite stable because the supermarket's supply has been signed in advance, and many discount and promotion programs are also implemented.
At the Saigon Co.op supermarket system, many promotional "festivals" are organized for each industry, each product and each different crop of the year. The Da Lat Vegetable Festival takes place from July 22 to 28 in Ho Chi Minh City with 200 vegetable and fruit items from the Da Lat raw material area discounted by a maximum of 33%.
