A farmer in Quang Binh invented a winch that can pull a boat weighing hundreds of tons ashore in just a few minutes.

At 6 a.m., fisherman Nguyen Du Luan from Bac Hoa village, Ngu Thuy Bac commune (Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province) arrived at the shore near his house on a bamboo boat. On the boat's hold were trays full of fresh squid, their skin sparkling with phosphorescent spots.

Jumping off the boat, fisherman Nguyen Du Luan said: "I just spent a night fishing for squid. There are a lot of squid this time so I caught quite a lot, earning a few million dong each night."

Panting, the fisherman continued: "Last time, when I came back from squid fishing, it took four people to move the boat ashore. Now it's better, because I just bought a winch invented by a local named Ngo Quang Tuan. All I have to do is hook a rope to the boat, turn on the winch and pull it ashore."

Dan Viet newspaper reporters visited the house of Mr. Ngo Quang Tuan (born in 1985, in Trung Thanh village, Ngu Thuy Bac commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province). While he was busy using a welding machine to dot the welds to design the frame for the winch, Mr. Tuan quickly stopped and invited us to visit the workshop.

Next to the newly completed winch, Mr. Tuan shared: "Before, I went to work abroad, working in mechanics. When I returned home, seeing the local people struggling to bring their boats ashore, I wanted to do something to help them. After many months of learning online and experiencing many failures, I made a winch."

"The time I made the first winch was in August 2021. I still remember clearly, when I finished, my colleagues and I brought the machine to the beach near the shore and helped pull a fisherman's boat ashore in just 2 minutes. After that, the good news spread far and wide, many people came to my house to ask me to make such a winch to help pull their boats ashore," said Mr. Tuan.

According to Mr. Ngo Quang Tuan, to make the winch, he reused an old motorbike engine, designed heavy transmission parts, and used ropes to connect to the object he wanted to pull.

Depending on the engine, Mr. Tuan will sell the winches for 8-12 million VND. In 2023, his workshop made more than 100 winches, earning nearly 1 billion VND.

In addition, this winch also helps people in Ngu Thuy Bac commune (Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province) harvest snakehead fish. Instead of 2-4 people pushing a modified cart carrying baskets of fish weighing hundreds of kilograms to shore, they only need to place the winch on the shore, hook a rope to the cart and pull it ashore.

Talking to PV Dan Viet, Mr. Tran Van Linh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ngu Thuy Bac commune (Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province), said: "Ngu Thuy Bac is a coastal commune, people here mainly exploit, catch aquatic products and raise snakehead fish on sand. Transporting boats, fishing assets when leaving and arriving at the port and harvesting snakehead fish of the people here is very difficult, all the weight of the boat and fishing assets depend on the strength of many people. But now, with the invention of member Ngo Quang Tuan of the Farmers' Association of Trung Thanh village, it has helped people to be less tired, reduce human effort, shorten working time, people who use it all have very positive feedback about this machine".
