After ranking schools based on 5 broad subject groups, QS continues to rank based on 55 narrower subjects, with music being a new field to be evaluated from this year.
According to QS, based on its specificity, each industry will have a different approach to determining the criteria and corresponding weights. Among them, the prominent criteria are academic reputation, reputation with employers and the international research network index (IRN Index) published by this organization.
QS is one of the three most prestigious, experienced and influential university ranking organizations in the world, along with the Times Higher Education (UK) and Shanghai Ranking Consultancy (China). QS began ranking universities in 2004, one year after the world first had a global university ranking published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (later Shanghai Ranking Consultancy).
