International beauty website International Poll reported that on August 24, the Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) sent a document to the organizing committee of Miss Universe Indonesia 2023, requesting not to send a representative to attend Miss Universe 2023.
The reason is because this unit is in the process of investigating a sexual harassment scandal.
Fabienne Nicole Groneveld was crowned Miss Universe Indonesia 2023 on the evening of August 3.
"In order to respect the ongoing legal proceedings, KemenPPPA requests the organizing committee not to send an Indonesian representative to participate in Miss Universe2023.
This is based on equality for everyone, without exception, all must respect the law," the KemenPPPA document stated.
That means, the new Miss Universe Indonesia Fabienne Nicole Groneveld may lose her chance to compete internationally because of the contest's scandal.
Not only that, Fabienne Nicole Groneveld also faced public criticism because while other contestants spoke up about being sexually harassed, she remained silent, showed no support, and only spoke up when pressured by fans.
Specifically, on August 16, the beauty queen shared on her personal page: "You may have noticed that I have not been active on social networks recently, but that does not mean I am silent in real life.
I am deeply concerned about the various allegations surrounding the competition and have taken the time to look into the story.
I urge everyone to be patient and restrained. Indonesia is proud to have a strong judicial system that stands for justice and fairness. Let's trust and let the law do its job."

Previously, Jakarta Globe reported that on August 7 (local time), a Miss Universe Indonesia 2023 contestant and her lawyer went to the police to report that she and several other beauties were sexually harassed while participating in the contest.
"We believe this is an insult to women's dignity, especially the body check in the presence of the opposite sex," said Mellisa Anggraeni, the contestant's lawyer.
The lawyer asserted that there was a lot of evidence, from documents to photos and videos about the incident. The lawsuit specifically accused Ms. Capella Swastika Karya (also known as Poppy Capella) - the national director of the Miss Universe Indonesia contest and also the national director of Miss Universe Malaysia.
On August 12, the Miss Universe organization announced that it would stop cooperating with the Miss Universe Indonesia organization.
"Miss Universe has decided to end its relationship with the copyright holder in Indonesia as well as the national director of the contest - Ms. Poppy Capella," the Miss Universe homepage wrote.
Miss Universe Indonesia 2023 is the first season organized by PT Capella. Previously, Puteri Indonesia organization held the copyright of Miss Universe in Indonesia for more than 20 years.
However, after transgender billionaire Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip auctioned the copyright of the Miss Universe contest in various countries, Puteri Indonesia was willing to pay 10 times more but still lost the opportunity.
