Moscow "accuses" the West of training Ukraine to attack Russian nuclear plant

In an interview with Sputnik , Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin accused Western security agencies, primarily the British MI6 intelligence agency, of training Ukrainian sabotage groups to carry out provocations against nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Russia.

“I can give an example when Western security agencies, primarily the British MI6, trained Ukrainian reconnaissance and sabotage groups planning to carry out provocations at nuclear power plants in the Russian Federation,” Mr Naryshkin said.

According to Sputnik, in 2023, Russia recorded and prevented a number of attacks on its nuclear plants, for example, the nuclear power plant in the Kursk region, the nuclear power plant in Leningrad (Leningrad region) and Kalinin in the Tver region.

Russia accuses Ukraine of being behind the incidents, but Kiev usually does not respond to such information.

In addition, Mr. Naryshkin also accused the West of thinking about organizing a revolution in Russia but affirmed that this would not succeed.

"I can say with confidence that the Western intelligence community, especially the United States, truly believes in their power to overthrow regimes they do not like. Indeed, they are responsible for the 'Arab Spring' movement that caused chaos and destruction. Western countries, especially the United States, are also responsible for the Euromaidan movement that occurred in Ukraine," he accused.

He said the West seemed to want a similar scenario to happen in Russia, but stressed that this would be unlikely to come true.

Mr Naryshkin also accused Western countries of trying to drum up public support by exaggerating the threat of a so-called Russian attack on NATO.

However, he said, people in Western countries have shown war fatigue through surveys. "Not many people believe in the possibility of Ukraine winning against Russia anymore," he said.
