Since her elementary school years, Quynh Trang has loved puzzles and quick calculations. However, it was not until middle school, when Trang participated in more competitions for gifted students, that her passion became more clearly defined.
"One of the people who had a great influence on me was my Math teacher at a specialized school. He not only imparted knowledge but also helped me understand that Math is not limited to numbers or formulas, but it is also an art, a way of thinking.
In addition, stories about famous mathematicians such as Sofia Kovalevskaia, Emmy Noether, Maryam Mirzakhani also inspire me," Quynh Trang shared.
In her journey of pursuing Mathematics, Quynh Trang encountered many difficulties. "The most difficult part was the period of losing motivation. There were times when I spent hours solving a problem but could not find the answer, or felt that I was not good enough compared to my friends.
Failures in exams also made me doubt myself. However, I learned to overcome them with perseverance and positive thinking. I realized that each failure is an opportunity for me to learn and improve.
It is a fact that for many years, few girls have been encouraged to pursue Mathematics from a young age. When we do not see many women succeeding in Mathematics or Science, many girls may feel that this is not the path for them.
In addition, the pressure to balance career and personal life is also a barrier for women in this field. While men are often encouraged to pursue their careers wholeheartedly, women face pressure to take on many different roles.
As a student at the Banking Academy, Quynh Trang said she wants to continue pursuing research in Applied Mathematics in Finance and Economics. For Trang, this is an interesting field, where Mathematics is not only used to solve theoretical problems but can also help optimize financial models, manage risks, and develop intelligent trading algorithms.
"I want to contribute to popularizing Mathematics by participating in teaching programs and guiding students who are passionate about Mathematics but do not have the conditions to develop it. I understand that not everyone has a favorable learning environment.
Therefore, I hope to be able to help young people, especially female students, have more motivation to pursue their dreams. One of my plans is to join or organize Math clubs and seminars for female students.
These programs not only help you gain more knowledge but also create a community where people can support each other. I am also interested in writing books and articles about Mathematics to share knowledge in an easy-to-understand way, helping many people realize that Mathematics is not as scary as they think.
If given the opportunity, I would like to participate in international research projects where I can work with leading mathematicians and access advanced methods."
Quynh Trang believes that her Mathematics journey is not only a personal path, but also an opportunity to contribute to changing social awareness about the role of women in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
