Expanding Dong Hoi Airport

VnExpressVnExpress04/03/2024

Quang Binh's Dong Hoi Airport will receive investment for the construction of a new T2 passenger terminal, increasing the number of aircraft parking positions from 4 to 8, and expanding the area by an additional 15 hectares.

On March 4th, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) agreed to build Terminal 2 and expand the aircraft parking area at Dong Hoi Airport to increase its capacity to 3 million passengers per year (currently 0.5 million). The total investment for the project is over 1,840 billion VND, funded by ACV.

ACV is expected to begin expanding the aircraft parking apron in August, with operations scheduled to commence in March 2025; construction of Terminal T2 is scheduled to begin in October and be completed in March 2026. To ensure the project stays on schedule, ACV proposes receiving the cleared land before June.

Mr. Vu Dai Thang, Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee, assessed the construction of Terminal T2 and the expansion of the apron at Dong Hoi Airport as an important project. The province will focus intensely on land clearance and create all conditions for ACV to implement the project. He hoped that ACV would soon select a contractor to ensure the project is implemented on schedule.

Located in Loc Ninh commune, about 6 km from the center of Dong Hoi city, Dong Hoi airport was built by the French in the 1930s, upgraded and used during the Vietnam War. In 2006, the airport was rebuilt and put into operation from 2008.
